Weekend Recap: Drivers Go Big in Last Weekend of Action Before World Finals

Authored by Monster Jam on May 6, 2024

As Monster Jam’s five domestic series came to a close last weekend, the drivers went all out knowing they would have a week to recover prior to Monster Jam World Finals XXIII.

Stadium Championship Series East – Philadelphia, PA

Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) will be one to watch at Monster Jam World Finals XXIII, in case you missed the memo. He swept every competition at the Superstar Challenge last Fall and has dominated the 2024 Stadium Championship Series East tour. He was defeated by the eventual Racing winner Tristan England (JCB DIGatron) in the second round at the event at Lincoln Financial Field, but otherwise won Skills, Freestyle, and the Overall. And, best of all, he did it with style:

Stadium Championship Series West – Salt Lake City, UT

Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) won the battle of the Andersons in the 2024 Stadium Championship Series West tour, but plenty of his rivals also got their time in the spotlight, and that continued last weekend at the Rice-Eccles Stadium. Firstly, Anderson lost out to Camden Murphy (Bakugan Dragonoid) in the Racing final, serving as a friendly reminder that he will one of the ones to watch in the JCB Racing World Championship event in two weeks. Ryan Anderson went on to win in Skills, but then Bari Musawwir (Zombie) won Freestyle, clinching his fourth point-paying Overall Event Championship of the season.

Arena Championship Series Central – Southaven, MS

Three different drivers took home Overall Event Championships after four events last weekend at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS. Two of those championships went the way of Weston Anderson (Grave Digger), who nearly swept both of those events. However, Friday’s event and Saturday evening’s event were different stories. On Friday, Fernando Martinez (El Toro Loco) seemed to have the measure of the field, winning Racing and Sky Wheelies en route to the Overall, while Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) won Skills and Brianna Mahon (Scooby-Doo) won Freestyle with her career highest Freestyle score. Saturday evening, Brianna defeated Mikayla Tulachka (Megalodon) in an all-female Racing final, Fernando won Skills, Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) won the Sky Wheelie competition, and then Alex Barin (Stone Crusher) took home his first career Freestyle win! The overall went the way of Brianna Mahon.

Arena Championship Series East – Salinas, CA

It seems quite fitting that the final event of Arena Championship Series East ended with Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger), series champion Armando Castro (El Toro Loco), and Zack Garner (Wild Side) all tying on event points. The higher Freestyle score meant that the Overall went to Krysten, while Zack Garner picked up the Racing win and Armando Castro won the Skills Challenge.

Arena Championship Series West – Moline, IL

Six of the drivers from Arena Championship Series West headed to the Vibrant Arena in Moline, IL, for two non-points events last weekend. Dalton Widner (Jurassic Attack) has been turning heads this season after he finished runner-up in the tour championship, but then series champion Matt Cody (Grave Digger) passed on his automatic bid to the World Finals. Widner thus inherited the automatic bid, and in Moline he proved that he will be a driver to watch by winning both JCB Racing events, both Great Clips Skills Challenges, and both Overall Event Championships. Berto Treviño (Monster Mutt Rottweiler) and Matt Cody won the Donut competitions, and Ashley Sanford (Megalodon) and Matt Cody won the Freestyle competitions.

International Series – Berlin, Germany

Bernard Lyght (The Amazing Spider-Man) won Sky Wheelies on Saturday afternoon, Brandon Arthur (Iron Man) won Racing on Sunday, and Charlie Pauken (Grave Digger) won Freestyle on Sunday as Monster Jam concluded its tour of Germany at the Uber Arena. Unfortunately for any driver not named Blake Granger, the other nine competitions and all three Overall Event Championships were all won by the driver of Megalodon, who was able to pull off the clean sweep in Saturday afternoon’s event. He will certainly be another driver to watch at Monster Jam World Finals XXIII.
