Monster Jam driver Tony Farrell Passed Away This Weekend

Authored by Monster Jam on November 11, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we share the news that former Monster Jam® driver and friend to many of us at Feld Motor Sports®, Tony Farrell, passed away this holiday weekend. From his driving team, to the mechanics, to all of us, Tony’s dedication to Monster Jam was immeasurable. He will be remembered not only for his skill as a driver but as a mentor for so many who would not have risen to the challenge without his patience and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Tony will be missed but always remembered.

One of the best known and most popular drivers in the history of monster trucks, Farrell’s monster truck driving career dates back to his debut in the unique Wild Thing, and over his decades in the sport Farrell has piloted several high profile machines including Sting and Blue Thunder®, before joining Team Grave Digger® in one of the Legend trucks. He was a mud racer before that and he competed at mud racing events that were companion races to monster truck events, even mud racing against Tom Meents. He drove the Blue Ribbon Bandit to mud racing championships in 1993 and 1995. Farrell grew up in a small Midwestern town and he says there wasn’t that much to do, so he and his friends always loved to get into their big trucks and play in the mud, which eventually led him to driving some of the ultimate big trucks in the greatest competitions. Farrell participated 5 times in the Monster Jam World Finals. He first appeared at MJWF II in 2001 driving Sting, his other four WF appearances were driving Blue Thunder. His best finish was in 2005 at MJWF VI where he drove Blue Thunder to the top freestyle score but did not win the World Freestyle Championship, losing in a tie-breaker to Jimmy Creten and Bounty Hunter. Actually his highest score in FS at MJWF came driving Sting in 2001, he scored a 34, finishing fourth that year.
