There were two questions going into the Monster Jam® event at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.
- Will the Andersons (who had won every event held at Foxborough) continue to dominate?
- Can Scott Buetow keep his stadium Freestyle win streak alive?
The answers are “almost” and “yes”.
The third appearance at Gillette Stadium featured a star-studded lineup that filled the fans with anticipation. As predicted, the competition was intense from the start. Monster Jam Qualifying saw Ryan Anderson and Son-uva Digger® prevail as the quickest for the second straight week.
Sitting in the eighth and final qualifying spot was two-time 2016 stadium Racing champion Damon Bradshaw and Monster Energy®. This team would be the first round opponent for Son-uva Digger, who was unbeaten at Gillette Stadium. Monster Energy was able to get to the finish line first to move on in the upset. From there, Monster Energy would face Linsey Weenk in Lucas Oil CrusaderTM in the semi-finals. These two have met four times during this season with Monster Energy winning them all. That streak continued as Monster Energy advanced to the finals to meet Dennis Anderson and Grave Digger®.
In a photo finish, Monster Energy prevailed for a third Stadium racing title and a shot at the Double Down with a Freestyle win.
The Freestyle competition saw all 16 Monster Jam trucks make an attempt to pick up the title. In close competition, Scott Buetow and Team Hot WheelsTM Firestorm would score his third straight stadium Freestyle, winning by a single point over Monster Energy and Metal MulishaTM.
