Weekend Recap: Coast-to-Coast Action for Monster Jam

Authored by Monster Jam on August 14, 2023

Fans in Florida and California got a look at the stars of Monster Jam. The annual August visit to Sunrise, Florida provided three opportunities to witness the excitement, and a return to the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento from the January 27-29 shows gave fans another look at the up-and-coming talent.

Sacramento, CA: Fans of Grave Digger were especially happy with the outcome in Sacramento. In January, Grave Digger was kept out of the even winner’s circle, but not this time. World champion Tyler Menninga swept the events, nearly capturing everything on the weekend. Menninga was able to claim a pair of Freestyle wins with Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) spoiling the sweep. Castro claimed a pair of Donut competition with 2023 Co-Rookie of the Year Ashley Sanford (Megalodon) picking up one win. Jeff Souza (Jurassic Attack) closed the weekend with a Racing win, dispatching son Hunter (Earth Shaker) in the first round and becoming the only driver to beat Menninga by winning the Sunday finals.

Sunrise, FL: Weston Anderson (Grave Digger) made his first visit to FLA Live Arena meaningful as he won all three events titles. In addition, Anderson swept the Freestyle competition, but was held winless in Donut action. That competition became the domain of Elvis Lainez (El Toro Loco) and Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) with Lainez taking two of the three. Tony Ochs (ThunderROARus) was a single winner in Two-Wheel Skills while Zack Garner (Wild Side) was quickest in the Friday opener to start the weekend with a win.
