Last weekend saw 17 Monster Jam events throughout the country, and the pressure is rising as those fighting for second try and stop their series points leaders from padding their points leads.
Stadium Championship Series East – Cleveland
We begin with the one non-points stop of the weekend, which featured eight of Monster Jam’s best taking to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for four events. Bari Musawwir (Zombie) kicked things off with a JCB Racing win and a Sky Wheelie competition win on Friday night, giving him the Overall. Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) came on strong over the rest of the weekend, winning 7 of the 12 competitions left on Saturday and Sunday – including all three remaining Skills Challenge competitions – and winning the Overall on Saturday night and on Sunday. Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) won the Overall on Saturday afternoon, and Cynthia Gauthier (Lucas Stabilizer) managed to secure a JCB Racing and Freestyle win over the weekend.
Stadium Championship Series West – Anaheim
The battle for Stadium Championship Series West got a little tighter over the weekend, after Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) defeated points leader Tristan England (JCB DIGatron) in JCB Racing on Saturday, and then England placed 11th in Freestyle, despite earning a solid 7.889. Ryan Anderson took the Overall. England came back to win JCB Racing and Skills on Sunday and just lost out to Ryan Anderson by 0.008 in Freestyle, but the damage done Saturday was enough to reduce his points lead from 33 to 22 points.
Arena Championship Series West – Oklahoma City
Weston Anderson (Grave Digger) continues to run away with the points lead on this series, thanks in part to him sweeping all Skills Challenge wins throughout the weekend. That being said, the battle for second remains intense, with Coty Saucier (Dragon) leapfrogging Devin Winfield (Velociraptor) for the second spot. However, it was neither Weston, Coty, nor Devin who won Overall on Saturday evening, despite splitting the competition wins between them. Instead, it was Ashley Sanford (Megalodon) who broke through for her first Overall Event Championship of the season. Cory Rummell (Earth Shaker) and Brianna Mahon (Scooby-Doo) also picked up JCB Racing and Freestyle wins respectively on Sunday.
Arena Championship Series Central – Worcester
Arena Championship Series Central had been one of the tightest championships up until two weeks ago, when Matt Cody (Grave Digger) really started to get momentum swinging his way. Matt won 7 of the 16 competitions over the weekend and the Friday Overall Event Championship, padding his points lead over Jon Zimmer Jr. (Terminal Velocity). Close behind Zimmer is Jamie Sullivan (Sparkle Smash) who won the Overall on Saturday afternoon, while Fernando Martinez (El Toro Loco) won the Overall Saturday evening. However, it was Triton Robbins (Krazy Train) who turned heads, defeating his brother in the JCB Racing final on Sunday, then winning Skills and proceeding to take home his first Overall Event Championship of his career.
Arena Championship Series East – Pittsburgh
At times, the weekend turned into a damage limitation for points leader and newly crowned international series champion Blake Granger (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) as his truck ran into mechanical gremlins throughout the weekend. The one who made the most of the opportunity was Tony Ochs (ThunderROARus), who lost out to MJ Solorio in a three-way points tie with MJ Solorio (El Toro Loco) and Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger) on Friday (the Overall went the way of MJ Solorio with the highest Freestyle score), but then Ochs won both Overall Event Championships on Saturday. He nearly backed that up on Sunday by winning Skills, Donuts and Freestyle, but his Round 1 elimination in JCB Racing meant that Blake Granger was just able to hang on by one point.
