Weekend Recap: Team Grave Digger Remains Under Pressure After Week 3

Authored by Samuel Reiman on January 22, 2024

Four of the five domestic Monster Jam tours are currently being led by Grave Digger drivers, while two of the tours see single-digit points leads.

Stadium Championship Series East:

The theme across many of these tours is parity amongst winners. However, Stadium Championship Series East is seeing the opposite as Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) has swept all four overall event championships so far in San Antonio and Houston. While Menninga won Racing both nights in Houston, the Skills Challenge events were won by JCB DIGatron (Tristan England) and Max-D (Tom Meents), and Freestyle by Meents and John Gordon (Bad Company). Menninga performed consistently enough to take the overall both nights, with Gordon placing runner-up behind him both times.

Stadium Championship Series West:

If you want a close championship, look no further than Stadium Championship Series West. Adam Anderson (Grave Digger), Camden Murphy (Bakugan Dragonoid), and Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) are covered by just 8 points after the opening three weeks. Ryan Anderson won Racing and Skills on Saturday but fell short in Freestyle allowing his brother to take Freestyle and the Overall in muddy conditions. Then, Murphy won Racing and the Overall on Sunday while Ryan Anderson won Skills and World Finals Freestyle Champion Colt Stephens (ThunderROARus) took the Freestyle win.

Arena Championship Series Central:

Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) continues to do her best to stop Weston Anderson (Grave Digger) from running away with the championship, but that is no easy task. Weston won three of the four overall event championships in Milwaukee last weekend while Jamie won one. She tied with Weston on points for one of those losses, but lost on the tie-breaker (higher Freestyle score). Brianna Mahon (Scooby-Doo) and Fernando Martinez (El Toro Loco) also broke through for competition wins, including Martinez’s first Racing win.

Arena Championship Series East:

Arena Championship Series East is the only championship currently not being led by a Team Grave Digger driver. However, things are very close. Points leader Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) leads Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger) by 4 points and Coty Saucier (Dragon) by 6 points. All three of them picked up overall event championships last weekend in Baltimore, with Angelina Nock (Megalodon) and Zack Garner (Wild Side) also picking up competition wins.

Arena Championship Series West:

Brandon Vinson (Grave Digger) has been the driver to beat in Arena Championship Series West since sweeping the first three overall event championships of the season back in Salt Lake City. While he continued his dominance in Reno, winning four of the five overall event championships, Tony Ochs (ThunderROARus) is establishing himself as his closest challenger, with a win, two seconds, a third and a fourth in the five events last weekend. There continue to be plenty of drivers breaking through for competition wins in this series. Jeff Souza even picked up a Racing win after being called up to replace Devin Winfield in Velociraptor this weekend.
