{"id":22140,"date":"2023-12-26T20:13:18","date_gmt":"2023-12-26T20:13:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.monsterjam.com\/?p=22140"},"modified":"2024-01-03T20:23:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T20:23:30","slug":"thunderroarus-legacy-just-getting-started-says-colt-stephens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monsterjam.com\/en-us\/drivers\/thunderroarus-legacy-just-getting-started-says-colt-stephens\/","title":{"rendered":"THUNDERROARUS LEGACY &#8216;JUST GETTING STARTED&#8217; SAYS COLT STEPHENS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section \n  id=\"main-custom-content-block\"\n  style=\"padding-top:60px;padding-bottom:px;background-color:;color:;\"\n>\n  <div class=\"container container-c\">\n    <div class=\"split\" style=\"gap:px;\">\n                        <div class=\"side \">\n\n                                          <section class=\"container-grid article-grid copy-section\">\n<div class=\"flex-row\">\n<div class=\"col-xs-12 col-md-8 col-md-offset-2 grid-item\">\n<p>Monster Jam drivers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsterjam.com\/en-US\/drivers\/colt-stephens\"><strong>Colt Stephens<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsterjam.com\/en-US\/drivers\/tony-ochs\"><strong>Tony Ochs<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0were tasked with a difficult challenge in 2023: Hop behind the wheel of the new ThunderROARus Monster Jam truck and show to fans that this truck could perform as good as it looked.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both of them delivered, with Ochs placing fourth in Arena Series Central, and Stephens placing eighth overall in Stadium Series Blue after some time off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stephens then went on to Monster Jam World Finals XXII in Nashville, TN, where he won the Freestyle World Championship, giving ThunderROARus its first major trophy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-embed-field-provider-youtube video-embed-field-responsive-video\">\n<div class=\"js-reframe\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"737467077\" title=\"For the WIN ? Monster Jam World Finals XXII Freestyle Champion ? #MonsterJam #Shorts\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iuNRD8eYY8Q?autoplay=1&amp;start=0&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.monsterjam.com\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-625127_75=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-20=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-33=\"true\" data-gtm-yt-inspected-40=\"true\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now, Stephens has to back that up by competing in the ultra-competitive Stadium Championship Series West tour in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited for 2024,\u201d said Stephens. \u201c2023 was crazy. New truck, haven\u2019t been in the truck in a while, and then going and winning was awesome. But I have so much momentum going into 2024 now. I\u2019m excited. I do have a target on my back. Being a World Finals Champion in ThunderROARus, I think this is going to drive me to drive hard. I really like the tour that we\u2019re on. I think this is a powerhouse tour and I think that\u2019s going to push me in the truck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stephens adds that not only does he want to perform well for himself and his team, but also because ThunderROARus has quickly turned into a fan-favorite truck.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, it\u2019s very interesting&#8230; I know when we come out with a new identity or a new Monster Jam truck, it\u2019s always interesting to see how the fans are going to take it. I knew that, with it being a dinosaur, that it was going to be good. But I think the color scheme took it over the top and I think the fans really liked seeing that truck.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s growing, especially with the new ThunderROARus Drop toy. I mean, I have a couple of those things now. I\u2019m 36 years old and I absolutely love that thing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I think it\u2019s just going to keep growing, I think the fan base is going to get stronger and stronger. I cannot wait until I pull out on the track and I hear the entire crowd roar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, Stephens added that if there was any pressure on himself in 2023, it was more because of the fact that he had spent some time out of the truck, rather than the new identity he was trying to help build.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem I had this year, was that I struggled on Skills. Coming from the Diesel Brothers\u2019 BroDozer, it was really hard to do some of those Skills moves. So I had pretty much four years of down time of being able to do Skills, so I was trying to make up for those four years in one season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it took me a while to get to where I needed to be in Skills. But then I ended up getting a win, which is pretty crazy. I never expected to get a win in Skills this year, especially with the caliber of drivers that were on that tour. But we did get one. But I\u2019ll tell you what, I\u2019ve been working on some stuff this summer. It was my whole goal after World Finals. We got a Freestyle World Championship, we need to get the Overall now. We need to get a Racing win. We need to go out and be competitive in Skills. If I can do that, then we\u2019ll end up with that Overall, because I want to get some Overall Event wins this year and I wanted to keep that truck on top as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe may have won a Championship, but we ain\u2019t done. We\u2019re just getting started.
