Cole Venard and Matt Cody have raced their way into the Monster Jam World Finals main field after advancing to the Semi-Finals in the JCB LCQ bracket at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City Thursday night.
Sparkle Smash’s Jamie Sullivan is unable to attend Monster Jam World Finals this weekend, opening up a second qualifying spot for the LCQ competitors.
Additionally, the 22 main field competitors qualified for the JCB Racing World Championship to set the Friday and Saturday brackets, with Blake Granger piloting Monster Mutt Dalmatian to the fastest qualifying time of a 27.059.
Fernando Martinez kicked the night off with the fastest qualifying time for the LCQ. Himself, Venard, Cody, and Triton Robbins all got a Bye in Round 1 and then proceeded to win their Round 2 races. However, Martinez and Robbins were then eliminated in the semi-finals, just falling short of making the main field.
The main field, meanwhile, will be split into 12 racing on Friday and 12 racing on Saturday, with Venard and Cody joining the Saturday contest. The winners from each night will then compete in the Championship final Saturday night.
Many of Monster Jam’s top performers ran into problems during JCB Racing Championship Qualifying, with the likes of Tristan England, Adam Anderson and Krysten Anderson all crashing during one of their two qualifying passes.
The Friday competitors went first, with Blake Granger, Todd LeDuc, Tyler Menninga and Bari Musawwir laying out the four fastest times, meaning they will get a Round 1 bye on Friday night.
They were then followed by the Saturday competitors, with Camden Murphy, Ryan Anderson, Zack Garner and Bryce Kenny turning the four fastest times, and thus also advancing to Round 2 on Saturday.
