Monster Jam fans were in awe nearly two months ago when a six-ton fearless unicorn came roaring out of the tunnel at MetLife Stadium. The date was June 1 when the landscape in Monster Jam officially changed as Sparkle Smash made its competitive debut with Kayla Blood behind the wheel.
Fans had already been buzzing after getting a glimpse of Monster Jam’s newest truck during the “Smash Mountain” stunt at World Finals XXIII in May, and the world was anxiously awaiting the chance to see this majestic metal beast back in action.
Before I give you an update on the “Summer of Sparkle Smash,” lets dive into a little history about where this truck came from.
Released in December of 2019, Sparkle Smash quickly became one of the most popular diecast toys on the market. The truck flew off the shelves as girls and boys both added it to their Monster Jam truck collection. As the years passed, every Christmas toy guide had a picture of this pink-and-purple unicorn with four BKT tires that would nearly jump off the page. The truck even came to life in video game form as a part of ‘Steel Titans 2” (Sparkle Smash will also appear in the upcoming “Monster Jam Showdown”). With every schedule announcement show that was teased, the one constant question was: “Will we see Sparkle Smash this year?”
In 2024 that question was finally answered with a resounding ‘yes,’ and now everyone’s favorite unicorn with 1,500 horsepower is in the very capable hands of one of the biggest female stars in the sport. Four events into the summer, Kayla led Sparkle Smash to its most consistent night, finishing with 22 points in Kansas City. She would follow that up with a solid night in Nashville, ending her effort in the top half of the leaderboard. Ten events into the season, Kayla would post her first wins in Sparkle Smash, earning victories in Donuts and Racing, and finishing second overall at Sunday’s Allentown event. All of that however was just a buildup to get Sparkle Smash back to city that started at all, Los Angeles, also the home of Spin Master, where Kayla would leave the Crypto.com Arena with her first Overall Event Championship in her new ride.
I believe it is just the first of many trophies to come her way as the “Summer of Sparkle Smash” continues this weekend at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV, which you can watch live on our YouTube Channel.
