Fans in attendance at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi, on Saturday may not have realized they were about to witness Monster Jam history. But, by the time the night was over Jon Zimmer Jr. had in fact cemented his place in the record books by becoming the first independent driver to win a Monster Jam series championship and earn an automatic bid to compete in the main field at World Finals 24 in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 4th weekend.
Since returning to Monster Jam in 2025, Terminal Velocity and Send It Motorsports have dominated Arena Championship Central. In what has been perhaps the most competitive and entertaining series in Monster Jam, Zimmer Jr. outlasted Matt Cody and Jamie Sullivan to earn his first opportunity to drive in the main field at the biggest event of the year.
Fans campaigned on social media in 2023 to get “Lil Zim” to World Finals in Nashville, and their enthusiasm paid off as Terminal Velocity competed in the Skills Challenge and finished in second place putting the entire sport on notice that Jon Zimmer Jr. is one of the best in the world.
This season has been no different, as Zimmer Jr. has won event championship after event championship en route to his history-making performance. When the action kicks off on July 4th at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Terminal Velocity will have the opportunity to make Monster Jam fans happy by going out and winning a World Finals championship.
Join Zimmer Jr. may very well arrive in Salt Lake City as the ultimate underdog, but he may very well leave as the ultimate Cinderella story and take home a World Finals championship.
