As the sun was setting here in Hidalgo, the sunlight poured into the mouth of the track from the tunnel to give the fans on the opposite end a stellar view of our driver athletes as they came roaring in, one by one, to parade around the track to start our fifth and final event.  In the previous competition, Aaron Basl had earned is first win in Monster Jam Racing.  The only thing sweeter than taking back to back racing wins, which is exactly what happened for him, was the fact that in the final matchup, he beat out Darren Migues in Dragon, who has the highest number of racing wins on this tour.  Aaron Basl and the entire Devastator team were all smiles.

We can’t leave out Zane Rettew in Stinger Unleashed, as he is quickly becoming a crowd favorite.  Zane continues his mantra of being consistent. He is currently second in the series points standings and he showed us why.  When he hits the pod in the blue and green stinging machine, he doesn’t mind taking risks, and leaves it all out there on the track. This was evident as he took first place in the Monster Jam Freestyle competition, just beating out Grave Digger. In the Two Wheel Skills competition, it would be the reverse. Randy Brown got the best of Zane by taking first, with Stinger Unleashed right on his tail in second place.

In the end, Team Grave Digger’s Randy Brown had Hidalgo in the palm of his hand. He took second in the Donuts and Freestyle competitions and again came away with a win in the Two Wheel Skills.  You can’t take anything away from the man and the machine that came out with a clean sweep of all five overall event championships.  This was an amazing weekend for Randy and his team and you could see it on his face when being interviewed on the pod by host Keaton Stewart. He let the fans know how much they mean to him, and how hard he works to give them their moneys worth each and every time he hits the track. His mission was accomplished, as that is a wrap for this exciting weekend in Hidalgo!

Without a Pit Party, we were able to get right into the action here in Hidalgo on Sunday afternoon. All eyes were on Aaron Basl in Devastator, as he has been coming extremely close to winning Monster Jam Racing, but had yet to get that first win. He defeated Stinger Unleashed in the semi-final round.  Then in the final round he finally earned his first Monster Jam Racing win, by taking down Kaylyn Migues in Monster Mutt Dalmatian.  When it came down to the second half of the competition it was all about the donuts.  They were they talk of the drivers, as the hosts asked detailed questions about the track conditions and the driver athletes abilities to pull of some good donut revolutions.  Randy Brown put up a good fight coming in second, but was no match for the winner, Linsey Read in Scooby-Doo!  Speaking of Scooby-Doo!, her husband Jerrad Warhurst who is the other half of her team, was able to add another 8 points by winning the ATV Racing. Heading into Monster Jam Freestyle, we once again had another tie, as Grave Digger and Monster Mutt Dalmatian both had 27 points and Scooby-Doo! had 28.  Randy Brown in Grave Digger was the final truck to perform.  When he was finished, fans looked to the video board to find out that he had just won Freestyle! Linsey Read in Scooby-Doo! finished in second place!  We had ourselves a close one.  Fans waited with baited breath for our host to announce the overall event champion.  It was explained by our host Bobby Millikin, that the Freestyle competition was the tie breaker and the words, “Randy Brown is your overall event champion” were spoken. The crowd roared, as Randy Brown in Grave Digger took home his 4th overall event championship of the weekend!

One of the best things about this particular tour is the great family dynamic.  We have husbands and wives competing with and against each other.  We also have two of our Monster Jam driver athletes who are father and daughter. Darren Migues in Dragon is the father to Kaylyn Migues in Monster Mutt Dalmatian.  This match up is made even more exciting, as the father daughter pair have been continuously going back and forth in the overall points standings.  As of this afternoon, there was only three points that separated them, and after the evening event, they are now tied for the fourth position.  This makes for an exhilarating event, as well as an entertaining nugget of information that the fans are stoked to get to know and understand. With that being said, Darren Migues took first in the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge by barely beating his daughter Kaylyn by a slim margin of 0.007.  When it came down to Monster Jam Freestyle it would once again be Dad’s day, when Darren scored ahead of Kaylyn, by placing third. But more impressive than his high-score and finishing in the top three, was how he did it. Darren has been doing something that none of our other driver athletes have been able to do consistently.  He has seemed to perfect the walking wheelie. Unlike the high sky wheelies we saw earlier from Scooby-Doo!, Darren can float the throttle for the right amount of power to get the wheel stand and softly walk it across the pod with perfect balance and precision.

Some other noteworthy things to point out, the lucky number of the evening must have been 27.  It was very interesting to see three different Monster Jam trucks including Dragon, Scooby-Doo!, and Barbarian all end up with 27 total event points.  The rivalry between our top two series points leaders once again played on the track between Zane Rettew in Stinger Unleashed and Randy Brown in Grave Digger.  Team Stinger Unleashed won in Monster Jam Racing and in ATV Racing, while Team Grave Digger won the Donut and Freestyle competitions.  In the end, it was Randy Brown who got to be interviewed on the pod, winning the overall event championship once again. Team Grave Digger is now three for three, here in Hidalgo!

All the driver athletes came out to play, but Randy Brown came out this afternoon with his A-Game. We saw a couple new faces in the Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses Racing finals.  It was Aaron Basl in Devatator going up against Devin Jones in Barbarian.  It would be Devin Jones who would get the best of Aaron Basl. When it came down to the fan favorite Monster Jam Freestyle competition, whoever said things are bigger in Texas, must be referring to the big air that Linsey Read in Scooby-Doo! never fails to deliver. She enjoyed her hometown advantage, and it paid off when she took the win in Freestyle.  Zane Rettew in Stinger Unleashed had a commendable performance, taking second place in the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge, but it was the consistency of team Grave Digger, taking wins in the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge and Donuts that put his team on top. His teammate P.J. Hall had his back helping him with a much needed and much appreciated eight points by winning the ATV racing, as “Downtown” Randy Brown in Grave Digger was our Overall Event Champion.

Things were heating up here in Hidalgo.  The crowd was excited to be here and our driver athletes were excited to compete.  The track was slippery and the drivers were trying to find their traction to stay grounded on the track and on top of the points.  The blue-and-green stinging machine came out strong in the first half, winning Monster Jam Racing and the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge.  Gravedigger’s Randy Brown was not taking this lightly, as he and his team took first place in ATV Obstacle Course and the Donuts competition.  Both teams were operating on high alert as every point matters. Even in the ATV Racing, Grave Digger and Stinger Unleashed finished in the top two positions.  The fans were on the edge of their seats, as it all came down to the Freestyle competition.  This is where the real separation began.  Unfortunately, for Zane Rettew and Team Stinger Unleashed, due to mechanical issues, his truck was unable to come to out and compete against Randy Brown and the rest of the remaining athletes. Scooby-Doo!’s Lindsey Read once again had a great Freestyle outing, landing herself in second place.  In the end, it was not enough and Randy Brown in Grave Digger showed everyone who the black-and-green wrecking machine really is.
