EVENT NOTES

Sunday evening was more of the same for Grave Digger and Brandon Vinson. The event opened with Brandon taking the Monster Jam Racing win with the fastest time we had seen all weekend — an extremely impressive 8.958. Up next Kayla Blood took her second ATV Racing win of the weekend as she looks to push Soldier Fortune further up the Top 8 Qualifiers for the ATV Racing World Championship at World Finals 20. Before intermission, it was Armando Castro of El Toro Loco who would take his second 2-Wheel Skills Challenge win of the day. After the break however, it was the Grave Digger show, as Brandon Vinson captured the Speedster Obstacle Course and Freestyle victories for the third and fourth times, respectively. In the end, he totaled 35 points and won his fourth Overall Event Championship in Grand Rapids.

Sunday afternoon in Grand Rapids opened with El Toro Loco’s first Monster Jam Racing win of the weekend with an impressive time of 9.406. Up next, it was Justin Hicks of Pirate’s Curse who took his second ATV Racing win in a row. For the first time this weekend, someone other than Brandon Vinson of Grave Digger won the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge — El Toro Loco’s Armando Castro. After intermission, Grave Digger’s Brandon Vinson won both the Speedster Obstacle Course and Freestyle. Those victories, coupled with Brandon’s overall consistency, was enough to give Grave Digger his third trophy of the weekend.

Saturday afternoon at the Van Andel Arena was a back-and-forth contest throughout. It opened with Monster Energy and Coty Saucier taking the Timed Racing win. Up next, Grave Digger’s Brandon Vinson won ATV Racing and the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge to send us into intermission. Coming out of the break, it was Kayla Blood of Soldier Fortune who took her second Speedster Obstacle Course win in Grand Rapids. Finally, Grave Digger won his third competition on the strength of a great save as time expired in Freestyle. Although Brandon won three individual competitions, his low finishes in the other two and Kayla Blood’s consistency throughout the event, allowed Soldier Fortune to narrowly edge Grave Digger for the Overall Event Championship by one point.

Friday night in Grand Rapids opened with a Grave Digger victory in Monster Jam Racing. Up next Kayla Blood of Soldier Fortune captured her sixth ATV Racing win of the season as she continues to move up the leaderboard for the ATV Racing World Championship at World Finals. The first half concluded with another Grave Digger win in the 2-Wheel Skills Challenge — it was Brandon Vinson’s 23rd of the tour. After intermission Kayla Blood took another win, this time in the Speedster Obstacle Course. The Freestyle competition seemed like it would go to El Toro Loco for his first win of the night but, late in the competition, Monster Energy’s Coty Saucier was able to narrowly take the lead and the win. However, it was Brandon Vinson and Grave Digger, on the strength of two competition wins and a consistent night throughout who took the first Overall Event Championship of the weekend.
