Friday 7:30 p.m.

Monster Jam arrived in Allentown, Pennsylvania to christen a brand new arena as fans frocked into the PPL Center for the ever contest in a brand new building. A field that included former world champions and up-and-coming talent provided a great mix of action as competition was close from start to finish.
The action began for Monster Jam trucks as wheelie competition on the hybrid track would give the field ample opportunity to showcase talent. Several drivers made an immediate impression, including Cynthia Gauthier in Monster Mutt Dalmatian and Brianna Mahon in Scooby-Doo, who held the top two spots through the halfway point. Monster Energy came to the top with four good wheelies that looked good enough until Grave Digger hit the floor. Chad Tingler etched his name in the record book as the first ever Allentown winner at the PPL Center.
Obstacle course would provide the next opportunity. A relatively simple course got challenging as big wheelstands erased time from other wise solid runs. Scooby-Doo blasted past the 10 second mark with a 9.791 run that looked unbeatable. Grave digger found a way to beat it, but only by a tenth of a second to claim the second trophy of the night.
The donut action had the fans excited as they marveled at the 10,000 pound Monster Jam trucks spinning at high speed. No one did it better in the eyes of the judges than Damon Bradshaw in Monster Energy as he took his first plaque of the night.
During his interview, Bradshaw reminded fans that freestyle was still to come and that every driver would be out to win it. With the addition of a few cars, drivers had plenty of options and took advantage of every inch of the course. Scores moved high quickly as Scooby-Doo again led the field. Northern Nightmare hoped to make progress, but ended the run near the halfway mark with driveline issues. Monster Energy squeezed past by a single point and that was good enough for victory when Grave Digger ended up a few points shy of Monster Energy’s 35.
Team New York captured the crown in Quad Wars and the crowd was treated to four top BMX riders, including two Pennsylvania performers.

Saturday 2 p.m.

The afternoon Monster Jam show started with a packed floor as Monster Jam fans headed to the PPL Center with many youngsters included in the group. The smiles could be found on fans of all ages as they anticipated seeing the 10,000-pound beasts flying through the air.
Wheelie competition was the opening act for the afternoon presentation. A field of eight Monster Jam trucks faced a fresh track and a thundering crowd. A score of 30 was needed right away as two drivers put up that number to take the early lead. Monster Energy pushed it to 33 as Northern Nightmare hit the floor. A spectacular first wheelie was all that the truck could take, bringing an early end to the competition. Grave Digger’s wheelie attempt ended after one hit with the truck on its side, ending the competition and making Monster Energy the winner of a third competition for the weekend after taking two in Friday action.
The obstacle course race against the clock proved the truck control is the key to victory. Those who strayed from attacking in a straight line found their times going the wrong direction and falling in the competition. Those who kept the pace saw the times go down. Monster Energy put up the third best time of the weekend with a 9.983 to take the lead. Last night’s winner, Grave Digger, needed to equal or better the track record to have a shot at repeating last night’s win. The clock started and the truck moved quickly, clipping the finish line at a record 9.211 for the win.
The fans were really anxious for the donut competition and the idea of seeing Monster Jam trucks spinning around was intriguing. Monster Mutt Dalmatian took the early lead and held it, wowing the judges to a score of 36. That mark stood through the entire competition, giving Cynthia Gauthier and Monster Mutt Dalmatian a third donut win on the 2015 season, increasing the driver’s chances for Young Guns action at Monster Jam World Finals XVI on March 26.
Monster Jam freestyle included good news as Northern Nightmare returned to competition as crew members were able to make the repairs. The early action continued a recurring theme as the lady drivers claimed the top three spots in the competition through the early stages (Women had finished 1-2-3 in donut competition). The strongest of the group was Brianna Mahon in Scooby-Doo, who carried a strong 36 to the top. Northern Nightmare put it on the line, but driveline issues ended the run early. Monster Energy, Friday’s freestyle winner, was out to repeat and maintained a quick pace with edge-of-your-seat action, using the whole floor as the playground. Grave Digger’s effort was hampered by a flat and came up short as Monster Energy proved victorious for the fourth time.

Saturday 7:30 p.m.

Overcoming adversity became the directive for the Monster Jam competitors who put the crews and equipment to the test in the Saturday night show. No one left disappointed as the thrills were obvious from start to finish.
Wheelie competition opened the action with Grave Digger scoring a near perfect 39 to claim the first trophy of the season and his second wheelie win of the weekend. Four drivers had scores above 30 to give a good look at what was in store for the rest of the night.
In obstacle course action, Scooby-Doo started with a blistering 9.471 time to make it difficult for the rest of the contenders to chase down the trophy. The time stood through a handful of challenges, but the track record fell when Monster Energy clipped off a track record 8.830 to grab the lead. Grave Digger had been running in the 9-second bracket and would do it again, but this time it wasn’t enough as Monster Energy claimed the crown.
An abbreviated field opted for donut action as many crews were preparing for freestyle. Monster Mutt Dalmatian was seeking a second straight donut win and the quest was successful with a solid 36 and victory. In the process, the truck suffered a mechanical setback and driver Cynthia Gauthier said her crew was thrashing to get it ready for freestyle.
The Monster Mutt Dalmatian group got the job done as a full field of trucks presented for freestyle. Scooby-Doo set the bar high with a 33 that stood the test until Northern Nightmare came out for a spirited run that ended seven seconds short and earned a 36. Grave Digger gave the best effort and came out a few points short to give 2012 world freestyle champion Cam McQueen his 11th freestyle victory of the year.

Sunday 2 p.m.

The final show of the first weekend of Monster Jam in the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania proved to be a fitting curtain closer. The drivers left nothing on the table to show the faithful just how much they appreciated the fans’ support.
Each driver was entitled to four hits in wheelie competition and the scores kept moving higher as the challenge was more pronounced. Madusa busted the scores into the 30s with a solid 32, only to watch Monster Energy slip past by a single point. Northern Nightmare was en route to a score that may have been good enough for the lead, but could only complete three hits. The judges took that into consideration and the score was only a 29. Grave Digger had to step up to deliver and deliver he did with a 35 for the championship.
Times had been steadily dropping through the weekend in the obstacle course competition. Monster Energy became the first truck into the 8-second bracket on Saturday night, but that winning time would not have had a chance on Sunday afternoon. Scooby Doo established a new track record at 8.702 to grab the immediate lead. Challengers came and went until Monster Energy sought to reclaim the track record. With a hard launch from the starting line and a smooth transition through the course, Monster Energy tripped the timer at 8.126 seconds. Grave Digger also came into the 8-second range, matching the 8.702 of Scooby Doo. Monster Energy added to the trophy collection from Allentown.
Donut contest turned into a donut challenge as two drivers chose to go head to head in a battle for spinning supremacy. Monster Mutt Dalmatian was able to get the best of Grave Digger in the competition, giving Cynthia Gauthier her third donut win of the weekend and drawing more attention to the quest for a Young Guns spot in the Monster Jam World Finals.
Freestyle would close off the program with the fans on the edges of their seats. Crushstation led the way, but the truck rolled just 23 seconds into the 75-second run. Judges awarded a 25 for the effort. Monster Mutt Dalmatian and Stinger pushed it to 29, but the tiebreaker became unnecessary as Madusa rocketed to a 34. Scooby Doo driver Brianna Mahon, called out by Madusa during the pre-show as an up and coming talent to watch, shot by the Queen of Carnage on the scoreboard to a score of 37. Northern Nightmare hit the drag and the big impacts started taking a toll on the body of the truck. With panels flying of the rig, Cam McQueen soldiered on to the finish and all six judges agreed the run was worth a 10 for a perfect 40. Monster Energy showed the power and the speed capabilities of the Monster Jam truck with an impressive that came up just short at 39. Grave Digger would close off the day with a solid freestyle, but the 39 allowed the Northern Nightmare team to gather in victory and claim the second consecutive freestyle.
Each performance had included Quad Wars featuring Team New York and Team Pennsylvania. New York managed a Friday victory, but was shut out in main events through the rest of the weekend. BMX riders Andrew Fox, Jesse Perry, Will Thompson and Casey Irvin entertained the crowd with some high flying action.
