Three More Join Monster Jam World Finals Field
Three more competitors have accepted bids to compete in Monster Jam World Finals XIX at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 23-24.
The defending Racing Champion, Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger®), will attempt to become the first back-to-back Racing Champion since his brother Adam pulled off the feat in 2013 and 2014. Anderson competed on Stadium Championship Series 4, narrowly missing the series title. He has compiled a 21-8 racing record, earning four Racing Championships in 2018. He has claimed four Event Championships and one title in Two Wheel Skills. Anderson has shown strength in Freestyle, winning five events and has finished in the top five in 26 of his last 28 Stadium Freestyles in the last two years.
A former champion who competed on Stadium Championship Series 4 in 2018 will be heading to Las Vegas. Second-generation racer Mike Vaters II (Overkill Evolution) ran his Stadium Racing record to 16-11 in 2018, adding three Freestyle titles. The 2015 World Freestyle Champion will be making his fifth consecutive start since qualifying in 2014 as winner of the Thursday preliminary event.
B.J. Johnson (Gas Monkey Garage™) will mark his third Monster Jam World Finals start on a mission to improve on last year’s Racing run. Johnson marched through the field to the quarterfinals, bowing out to Jim Koehler (Avenger). He has an impressive 5-2 record in World Finals racing. For 2018, Johnson claimed a Racing title as well as an Event Championship when the series visited Toronto.
The announcements bring the list of qualifiers to 11 with 20 more spots still open. Four champions will be crowned over the weekend, bring the field to 15 with more announcements to come, including the field for the Double Down Showdown.
