Monster Jam World Finals Championship is a Feat that Every Driver Wants
Authored by Admin on March 4, 2016
To win a Monster Jam World Finals® championship is a feat that every driver wants to put on a resume. To score a Double Down in the Monster Jam World Finals, which involves wins in Racing and Freestyle, has become recognized as the ultimate achievement.
The first Double Down happened at Monster Jam World Finals II. Defending Racing champion Tom Meents and GoldbergTM came into the 2001 Racing finals against Blue Thunder® in the battle for Las Vegas supremacy. To that point, Meents was undefeated, but that didn’t sway the efforts of Blue Thunder, who had already beaten the fast qualifier to advance.
The two were poised at the staging line to decide the title (Watch a video of the race here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYYvtoHa230&feature=youtu.be) and the first step to a Double Down was completed.
It took a spectacular effort to earn the Freestyle honor, but Meents was up to the task. His score was enough to prevail and achieve the historic accomplishment. He repeated the Double Down in 2002, but no driver and Monster Jam® truck has been able to match it. Many have tried, but no one else has taken both trophies at Monster Jam World Finals, leaving Tom Meents to stand alone.
Could this be the year?
