Giant Steps Being Taken Toward the Championship in the East Tour

Team Grave Digger® and Cole Venard took a giant step toward the championship in the East Tour of the 2016 Monster Jam® featuring the AMSOIL Series with a dominating performance at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The first-year driver amassed more than one-fourth of his season-leading 68 points this weekend alone, to stretch his lead over Team ZombieTM and Bari Musawwir. The two teams went into the weekend separated by only two points, but the margin is now 12 with only two weekends remaining.
Zombie started strong by winning the Friday night overall event championship and those points gave the team a one-point lead over Grave Digger. From that point, there would be little scoring for the 2012 Young Guns Shootout TM champion Musawwir, who watched his bid to return to the Monster Jam World Finals® take a serious hit. Grave Digger’s performance included all three remaining Freestyle wins and a trio of wins in the Donut competitions. Grave Digger scored points in every element of competition throughout the weekend.
The Providence results have turned the race into a showdown between two Monster Jam® trucks, Grave Digger® and Zombie. There are still enough points remaining that can allow others to make it interesting, but the dominance of this past weekend has the remaining athletes going back to the drawing board to find a formula to add points.
The series heads to the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, for four more great competitions.
