Four Chances for Camden to get that Elusive First World Finals Win
Authored by Samuel Reiman on June 29, 2023
Camden Murphy (Bakugan Dragonoid) has been one of the stars of Monster Jam in recent years, earning Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 and then the Fan Favorite Driver award in 2022.
Murphy has yet to achieve success at Monster Jam World Finals. However, this year, just he and three-time World Champion Ryan Anderson (Son-Uva Digger) will have the opportunity to partake in all four Monster Jam World Finals competitions.
But how does Camden Murphy rate his chances for each event?
Skills: “Skills is going to be tough. I’m really not too sure entirely what I want to do just yet. I’ve got to look out of the track and just have to analyze it a little bit more.
“I think it’s the one that I'll struggle with the most because there's a lot of really great competitors out there. It's trying not to do the same thing as the next guy or gal, so trying to be different, trying to do something that hasn't been done yet.”
High Jump: “Honestly, I think it's one of those luck of the draw. I remember when I did it back in 2019 it just kind of depended on the track a little bit. Every truck that went next just went higher… as the track gets tackier and tackier it helps get more grip to send the truck even higher so who knows if that's how it's going to be this year. We're not too sure what Mother Nature has in store for us either, so you know that's going to have a lot to play in it too.”
Freestyle: “I don't think this was one of my best freestyling years. I think I struggled a little bit. Not sure really what that missing piece of the puzzle really was, but this is where you’re a hero or zero, you know what I mean? You gotta go out there and do something wild and crazy and take chances and take risks. Sometimes they don't pay off, but hopefully they will this time. We came really, really close to the World Finals Championship back in 2019. Didn't do so hot at the at the last World finals. But hey, again, it's going to be taking chances and hoping for the best.”
Racing: “Racing is going to be interesting, this year. We have the elevated start and we did good the last time we had an elevated start. I made it all the way to the semi-final round and red lighted. I think we could have made it to the final round and who knows?
“I think the elevated start is a good thing for me, but we'll see. I mean again, it's a lot of great competitors out here and again, Mother Nature could play a big role in it, so we’ll just have to see what happens.
“I’m most excited for racing. I think we have a really, really good chance with it. And as long as you can just be smooth and not make any mistakes, I think that’s the biggest key.”
Monster Jam World Finals action begins at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
