Trent Montgomery: Building custom trucks, sand dunes and having fun with my daughters

Trent Montgomery: My father and also where I want to see myself in 10 yrs.
Do you have any ‘pre-show’ rituals you run through?
Trent Montgomery: I have a pep talk with the truck as I look it over one last time.
What’s something a lot of people don’t know about you?
Trent Montgomery: I like to draw when I can’t sleep.
What is your favorite memory on or off the racetrack?
Trent Montgomery: I had a mishap on the track with my truck and building damage was caused. I felt bad and down on my luck for my driving error. Tom Meents gave me an encouraging pep talk to keep my chin high and never give up. And that he saw talent in me.
What is your most prized possession?
Trent Montgomery: My daughters
Life on the Road with Monster Jam
What is the best and worst thing about being on the road every weekend with Monster Jam?
Trent Montgomery: It pains me to be away from my daughters with all the time we put into the trucks. The amount of joy I get seeing all the smiles and how kids’ faces light up when they see the trucks and tell me that they are my biggest fan and look up to me really softens up the edges, especially when it’s kids around my daughters’ ages.
While on the road, what is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
Trent Montgomery: My favorite thing to do is exploring the city that we are in, looking at the culture and seeing what the city is known for.
How do you keep fit?
Trent Montgomery: I try to eat healthy but I usually cheat a lot! Mostly I keep fit just by staying active.
What item(s) can you not live without while traveling on the road with Monster Jam?
Trent Montgomery: Most definitely cannot live without my phone. It’s my life line to my daughters!
What is your favorite city to travel to? Why?
Trent Montgomery: My favorite city to travel to is Las Vegas. You never know what you are going to see, who you will meet or the interesting conversations you will have with the people there.
How did you get started competing in Monster Jam?
Trent Montgomery: I met Jimmy Creten in 2012 at Monster Jam World Finals. I was getting my back signed by him and jokingly made the comment to him that he should hire me to work on his team. At the time, I knew he was located in KS but didn’t know where. We got to talking about what I can do, have done, my mechanical abilities and what I had built. He took interest and told me to come by the shop sometime when he is back. I started later in the year as his fabricator and then began the 2013 season as his crew chief.
What is your favorite part about competing in Monster Jam?
Trent Montgomery: My favorite part is knowing that I’m going against the best drivers out there and that I made it into the small percentage of people that get to do this for a living.
How would you describe your driving style?
Trent Montgomery: I’d describe my driving style like a shark. I’m quick to attack, don’t like to waste time and always thinking of my next move.
What advice would you give to kids who want to become a Monster Jam driver?
Trent Montgomery: Never give up, and never give in. There are moments in life when you think your goals are too far out of reach, but they are just moments. As long as you never give up on the dream, you can succeed. If there is a will, there is a way.
What is your greatest memory as a Monster Jam driver?
Trent Montgomery: My greatest memory as a Monster Jam driver was having my father on tour with me. I knew I made my family proud chasing and conquering a dream. Now to take it to the next level.
Who in Monster Jam do you look up to for inspiration?
Trent Montgomery: I look up to Tom Meents, Dennis Anderson, Jimmy Creten and JR McNeal. The times of talking to them, hearing their stories, knowing and seeing what it takes to be in the business and how far they made and where there came from and where they are now reminds me that the sky is not the limit. There are footprints on the moon.
