Life on the Road with Monster Jam
What is the best and worst thing about being on the road every weekend with Monster Jam?
Matt Cody: The best is traveling to new places and meeting all of the Monster Jam fans. The worst would be not being home for certain celebrations and being away from family and friends.
While on the road, what is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
Matt Cody: I like to explore the city, and go to new restaurants/try new food.
How do you keep fit?
Matt Cody: Always stay active.
What item(s) can you not live without while traveling on the road with Monster Jam?
Matt Cody: Not much. As long as I have my gear, clothes and money, I am good to go.
What is your favorite city to travel to? Why?
Matt Cody: I don’t really have a favorite; I enjoy every place I get to go to. But I would say that I like to travel to the East Coast a lot because I have a fan base there.
How did you get started competing in Monster Jam?
Matt Cody: I started at the bottom. I got hooked up with local Hall of Famer Mike Vaters with Black Stallion in eighth grade. I went to all of the summer shows helping out as a crew chief. Mike taught me a lot. Then in 2012 I got my first opportunity to drive Iron Warrior. It was on from there. I drove a few more times in 2013 and I went full time in the truck in 2014. October of 2014 I drove in my First Monster Jam show in Black Stallion in Philadelphia. I’ve been full time in that truck until now.
What is your favorite part about competing in Monster Jam?
Matt Cody: The Monster Jam fans for sure. I have been a fan and I am still a fan. I know what they like to see.
How would you describe your driving style?
Matt Cody: Fast and wild but always in control! It will have you on the edge-of-your-seat.
