David “Too Tall” Olfert put in the long hours and road miles of a Monster Jam crew chief for nine years. His work with many drivers and attention to detail in keeping the trucks in top condition gave him a desired chance to drive. He made his first start in Monster Jam in 2019 and was a regular on the Arena Championship Series West in 2022. His performance earned him the Arena 2-Wheel Skills of the Year Award.

  • What are some of your interests/hobbies/favorite pastimes?
    Riding ATVs, being outdoors, pulling pranks, and making people laugh.
  • Who are your role models?
    Anyone who doesn't give up on their dreams.
  • Do you have any pre-show rituals you run through?
    Nothing special or crazy.
  • What is your favorite memory on or off the race track?
    After being a Monster Jam fan since I was a kid, finally getting the chance to compete alongside some of the drivers I've watched and crewed for, for many years means a lot.

LIFE ON THE ROAD

  • What is the best and worst thing about being on the road every weekend with Monster Jam?
    Best thing is getting to travel doing what I love as a career. Worst is also the travel and being away from family and friends.
  • While on tour, what is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
    Relax and chill. Monster trucks is such a full-time job that when I do have free time I like to just relax.
  • What is your favorite city to travel to? Why?
    Anywhere in Texas. Texas is just my kind of place. Or Anaheim California. Something about the atmosphere in Anaheim I love.
  • What countries have you visited with Monster Jam?
    Canada, Mexico, Europe, Dubai, China, Singapore, and Australia.

CAREER

  • How did you get started competing in Monster Jam?
    I was a crew chief in Monster Jam for over 9 years. Most years I was crewing for Bari Musawwir, then Brianna Mahon.
  • What is your favorite part about competing in Monster Jam?
    The family atmosphere off the track and the competitive nature on the track.
  • How would you describe your driving style?
    Calculated risk.
  • What advice would you give to kids who want to become a Monster Jam driver?
    Never give up. If you want something bad enough and you work hard enough dreams do come true.
  • What is your greatest memory as a Monster Jam driver?
    Getting an "atta boy" or thumbs up from other veteran drivers who I've looked up to and watched for years.
  • Who in Monster Jam do you look up to for inspiration?
    Coty Saucier.
