About Me

What are some of your interests/hobbies/favorite pastimes?
Ami Houde
: Anything with an engine that goes fast! I have raced motocross for 25 years. I love traveling, working out, cooking and adventuring.

Who are your role models?
Ami Houde
: My dad! He is a Canadian National Motocross Champion and World Vet MX Champion. He is the reason I started racing and has always pushed me to enjoy my racing career and have fun along the way.

Do you have any ‘pre-show’ rituals you run through?
Ami Houde
: On the starting line getting ready for a race or freestyle event, I always pound my fists together and get pumped up!

What’s something a lot of people don’t know about you?
Ami Houde
: I was bullied really badly in high school because I was a tomboy and didn’t fit in with the other girls. It taught me the value of being good to others and pushed me to work toward my dreams and make something of myself.

What is your favorite memory on or off the racetrack?
Ami Houde
: I will always remember the time I raced with food poisoning. I was terribly sick and wanted to race a big important race, so I lined up on the line. As soon as that helmet went on and my adrenaline was rushing, I didn’t feel a thing. I won my race and proved to myself what mind over matter can do in a hard situation!

What is your most prized possession?
Ami Houde
: My health.

Life on the Road with Monster Jam

What is the best and worst thing about being on the road every weekend with Monster Jam?
Ami Houde
: There is no worst thing! I absolutely love every second of this experience and life.

While on the road, what is your favorite thing to do during your free time?
Ami Houde
: Work out! I love to be physically prepared for my job. It helps my mental preparation as well and keeps my body feeling great with the hectic schedule. Plus it helps me blow off some steam.

How do you keep fit?
Ami Houde
: I train six days a week, in the gym, outside, in the hotel, basically anywhere and everywhere! I live a very active lifestyle so I take the time to fuel my body with good healthy food and drink a lot of water!

What item(s) can you not live without while traveling on the road with Monster Jam?
Ami Houde
: My iPod for music, music and more music! It’s a must for me.

What is your favorite city to travel to? Why?
Ami Houde
: I would love to perform for my hometown of Winnipeg and to be able to represent where I am from. Having all of my friends and family there for support would be an amazing experience.

Career

How did you get started competing in Monster Jam?
Ami Houde
: My fellow Canadian Cynthia Gauthier, driver of Monster Mutt Dalmatian, and I both come from a background of racing dirt bikes in Canada and we have always been close. Once she started driving for Monster Jam, I wanted her progress and saw how much she loved what she did. I knew it was the direction I wanted to go with my career! I met Cole Venard at a race in Las Vegas and he passed along some contact info. I few months later, I found myself graduating from Monster Jam University!

What is your favorite part about competing in Monster Jam?
Ami Houde:
The fans! I love seeing how passionate the Monster Jam fans are; being able to put on a great show for them is something money could never buy. Also, this career gives me a platform to be a role model for kids all over the world, showing them what can be possible with hard work, dedication and a dream!

How would you describe your driving style?
Ami Houde
: Very technical, calculated and fast!

What advice would you give to kids who want to become a Monster Jam driver?
Ami Houde
: You will never accomplish your dreams sitting on the couch! Get up, get out there, take a risk and never be afraid of failure. Allow failure to fuel your fire to succeed and learn from each and every mistake along the way. Most importantly, the key to walking from failure to failure without loosing your enthusiasm is to always have an optimistic view on life!

What is your greatest memory as a Monster Jam driver?
Ami Houde
: The feeling of finally “making it” as a professional athlete is something I will cherish forever. The years of hard work and perseverance paying off has been my greatest accomplishment and I am honored to join the Monster Jam family!

Who in Monster Jam do you look up to for inspiration?
Ami Houde
: Krysten Anderson! I am very lucky to have her on the Monster Jam Triple Threat Series Central with me this year. We have become amazing friends and motivate each other to be great athletes and ambassadors of the sport. Her father was one of the drivers who shaped Monster Jam into the sport it is today, and I have learned a lot about the trucks and industry through her.
