Weekend Recap: Bryce Kenny Goes to Outer Space; Armando and Krysten Tie on Points

Authored by Monster Jam on April 15, 2024
Bryce Kenny made the highlight reel last weekend with extreme air during his Saturday Freestyle run in Great Clips Mohawk Warrior at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In Huntsville, Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger) and Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) tied for the points lead in Arena Championship Series East, and Blake Granger was proclaimed the International Series Champion of 2024.

Stadium Championship Series East – Atlanta

Tyler Menninga (Grave Digger) won both events on Saturday and Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, extending his points lead. Menninga picked up the Saturday Racing win while Todd LeDuc (Megalodon) kept him honest winning JCB Racing on Sunday and both Great Clips Skills Challenge events. However, it was the Freestyle performances that made the highlights reels, with Bryce Kenny (Great Clips Mohawk Warrior) scoring a 9.816 on Saturday, and Menninga and John Gordon (Bad Company) impressing with 9.431 and 8.981 runs for first and second respectively on Sunday.

Stadium Championship Series West – Des Moines

The battle of the Andersons may have already concluded on Stadium Championship Series West, with Ryan Anderson (Son-uva Digger) clinching the title two weeks ago. However, Adam Anderson (Grave Digger) proved that he is still going to be a threat if he receives a bid to World Finals, as he won two out of three overall event championships during this non-points event. Adam Anderson and Bari Musawwir (Zombie) kicked off the weekend splitting the competition wins on Saturday, with the main trophy going to Adam. Saturday evening, it was Bari’s time to shine as a win in the Sky Wheelie contest helped him take the overall. Joe Foley (El Toro Loco), Cory Rummel (Megalodon) and Kayla Blood (Soldier Fortune) also picked up wins in Racing, Skills and Freestyle respectively. On Sunday, Adam won Racing and the Sky Wheelie contests to his second overall of the weekend, while Rummel emerged victorious again in Skills and Musawwir won Freestyle for the second time this weekend.

Arena Championship Series Central – Cincinnati

Weston Anderson (Grave Digger) has yet to clinch the Arena Championship Series Central title, partly because of how many events the series does each weekend, but also partly because Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian) and Brianna Mahon (Scooby-Doo) are consistently able to pick up wins too. The three of them won every competition between them this weekend, with neither of the drivers sweeping any of the competitions or any of the nights. Anderson still picked up two of the overall event championship wins on Saturday and Sunday, but Saturday night the trophy went the way of Jamie Sullivan (Monster Mutt Dalmatian).

Arena Championship Series East – Huntsville

Unquestionably the tightest championship battle throughout the entirety of the 2024 Monster Jam season has been the one between Krysten Anderson (Grave Digger) and Armando Castro (El Toro Loco) on this tour. Anderson had a 15-point lead at the start of the weekend. A rough start to her weekend allowed Castro to close the gap to 7 points before Anderson won Donuts and Freestyle, while Castro took the overall. During both Saturday events, Castro ramped up his game and emerged as the points leader by 1 point over Anderson, who picked up just one competition win during the day. Zack Garner (Wild Side) and Tony Ochs (ThunderROARus) picked up competition wins too, but all of the Overall Event Championships had gone the way of Castro. On Sunday, Anderson remained just one point back of Castro heading into the final Freestyle competition of the weekend. Anderson placed first, and Castro placed second, tying them on points.

Arena Championship Series West – Albany

The three non-points events held at the MVP Arena in Albany last weekend saw three different overall event champions. First up was Ashley Sanford (Megalodon), who had a strong weekend overall, sweeping the Donut competitions, winning two out of the three Freestyle events, and also picking up the first Racing win of her career. Dalton Widner (Jurassic Attack) won overall Saturday evening, but would have to overcome a 61-point deficit to Grave Digger’s Matt Cody next weekend in Charlotte, NC, to win the title. On Sunday, Cody took the overall along with the Skills and Freestyle wins. Devin Winfield (Velociraptor) also broke through for a couple of competition wins in the Skills Challenge on Saturday and Racing on Sunday.
