Damon Bradshaw and Monster Energy added to what has already been a successful Monster Jam tour of Australia with that team’s best night of the expanded series down under as Monster Energy took the Double Down by winning both the Racing and Freestyle Competitions Saturday night at ANZ Stadium in Sydney.
For the second straight year, the Aussie fans turned out in huge numbers at the Sydney Olympic Park stadium and after an incredible Pit Party the action inside was thrilling and ultra-competitive. To start the night, all of the Monster Jam trucks put in qualifying runs to try and earn one of the coveted eight spots available in the racing bracket. Ryan Anderson in Son-uva Digger recorded the fastest qualifying time and eliminated Neil Elliott in Max-D and Marc McDonald in the Big Bash League truck to advance to the Championship Race while in the other half of the bracket Monster Energy advanced past Carl Van Horn and Grave Digger in round one then Monster Energy knocked off George Balhan and Mohawk Warrior in the semifinals to set up the battle in the grand final of the racing bracket. The exciting finale was close all the way to the finish with Monster Energy pulling out the victory to earn his third championship race trophy on the 2014 Australia Tour.
In freestyle Bradshaw would add his first Aussie Freestyle win to all that Racing hardware. In a competition full of spectacular moves and wow moments, back flips, big air and great saves, Monster Energy and Max-D finished the competition even on the judge’s scorecards. The tie breaker judge whose scores are only considered in the case of a tie gave the edge to Monster Energy and Bradshaw ended this expanded tour of Australia with the Double Down as Monster Jam now heads to Auckland for the sport’s first ever appearance in New Zealand November 1st and 2nd.
