A business relationship with Dennis Anderson allowed Steve Sims to transition from the stands into the pit area as the owner of a Monster Jam team with Sims himself getting behind the wheel. While the desire was initially to have a diversion from the busy stone business, the team quickly became competitive, eventually having both an East Coast and West Coast team on the road. Sims got behind the seat in early 2006 when his regular driver was unable to go and found he had the talent to be competitive. Sims immediately earned the respect of fellow competitors and worked his way into top competition. He began competing in World Finals in 2008, earning a top five in Freestyle in his third appearance.
