Weekend Race Recap

Friday 7:30

Lake Erie speedway was built for Monster Jam. The state of the art racing facility played host to another successful Monster Jam with near capacity fans screaming for more.

The night started off with the Advance Auto Parts Wheelie contest. Grave Digger took the win with a score of 23 because of the slap wheelie he drove half way down the front stretch. That sealed the deal because the other four trucks were in contention for the win until that added move. Eradicator took second with a score of 19 followed by El Toro Loco with a 15 as Black Stallion was close behind with a 14. Back Draft rounded out the field with a 13 for the 2009 Monster Jam Rookie of the year.

Racing was next and Grave Digger drew the number one flag before the show giving him the buy run. Back Draft faced off against his dad Eradicator in round one loosing by a half of a truck length. El toro loco also fell short as Black Stallion the king of thunder nations beat  him to advance to the semi finals. Grave Digger would face the fast looser in the semi finals which was Back Draft only to take him out for the second time tonight. Black Stallion faced off with Eradicator and won the race by a tire giving him the bid to race Digger in the finals. The last race was the closest of the night. Grave Digger pulled out the victory for his second time of the night by inches over Vaters.

The Torco racing fuels doughnut competition was awesome. El toro loco was the fisrt to go and scored well for the first truck out with a score of 18. That didn't last long as Back Draft stepped it up and wowed the fans with a score of 21 and the lead. That score would hold all the way till Grave Digger as Eradicator only scored a 16 followed by Black Stallion with ba 9. Digger knew he would have to do an awesome doughnut to take the win and win  the smoke cleared the judges awarded him with a 28 and another victory.

With only one more event to go every Monster Jam driver knew they needed to crank it up to beat Randy Brown and his Black and Green Wrecking Machine. El toro was first to go and at the end of his sixty second run he had the lead with a 16. The young Slifko was next and with problems that steamed earlier with a bad shock did a great job and took the lead with an 18. Both of the scores would not hold. Black Stallion had some good air and scored the lead with a 21 only to have it taken away by Eradicator who scored a 22. Grave Digger knew he had some room to work and when he hit the track it was over for the other competitors. Randy Brown was on a mission and wowed the crowd and the judges for his fourth win of the night with a score of 24.

After the last win Randy Brown told the crowd he did it for "Twig"!

Saturday 7:30

It happen again. The rain came right as the fans were coming back from intermission just as it did last year and the show was cut short. The rain came down so hard it flooded the infield of the track and hail was also a factor. When the storm went through we resumed for the fans and gave them one heck of a freestyle competion. There was only three trucks that were able to start because of the rain but these three trucks and Monster Jam drivers gave it there all.

It started with Black Stallion as he throttled the ten thousand pound machine straight through the flooded infield and sprayed water every where. The fans loved it and it started the battle for freestyle king. Black Stallion scored a 19 giving Eradicator and Grave Digger some room. Andy Slifko took advantage of the wet track and whip into a cyclone that had the remaining crowd on there feet scoring a 23 for the lead. Randy Brown was next and took the Black and Green Wrecking machine to another freestyle victory with a combination of great air sick doughnuts and some water skiing to score a 24 for the win.

In other action Black Stallion won the wheelie contest with a score of 25 with Eradicator second with a 21 followed by Back Draft with a 20. Grave Digger was next with a score of 19 and El Toro Loco rounded out the field with a 14.

Race again came down to Black Stallion vs. Grave Digger. This time Randy drove Grave Digger on a flawless pass and defeated Stallion by a truck length. Digger made it to the finals with a bye run and a semifinals win over Fast Looser Eradicator. Black Stallion made it to the finals with wins over Eradicator and Back Draft. Back Draft also won his first round battle against El Toro Loco.

Even Though the competition was cut short due to weather the night was again one of the best Erie PA. has seen. THANKS TO THE GREAT FANS FOR COMING OUT AND WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
