The night started out perfect! NO RAIN! For the first time in a long time the track was dry and not a drop of rain as the Monster Jam fans watched their favorite monster trucks. Candice Jolly was hand her Qualifying flag for the World finals as the only female to compete. Candice is so excited and can’t wait for the 27 days to go by so she can show what she is made of.
Racing and qualifying were fast as Captains Curse was the fastest qualifier of the night followed by a Surprising Tropical Thunder as second fastest, but neither truck made it to the finals as there was plenty of upsets the whole night. Batman proved again why he is the reining Monster Jam world finals champion because he defeated the entire field to take home the Oakland trophy. Seasock defeated the Patriot in the finals in a very close race and looked to double down to finish the night. Some surprises were Monster Mutt coming back as fast looser in round one to take out Captains Curse and the same for The Patriot as he came back as fast looser from round number two and defeated Mutt in a photo finish. Tropical thunder was fast all night but lost in the semi finals to Batman which was the closest race I think I have ever seen.
The UTI Freestyle was next and all 10 trucks went at it in high fashion to take the trophy. Captains Curse wowed the crowd and judges to take the win in freestyle with a score of 26 and 4 bonus points for a total of 30. The Patriot fell short with a score of 25 as he filled the clock and the bonus time and I felt he was shorted and should of scored higher with some sick air that he had. Batman also scored a 25 with extra time in bonus and a solid run. Monster Mutt Dalmation and Grave Digger both had some highlights as Jolly had the freestyle of a life time until she rolled the dog over as well as Grave Digger doing the same and the breaking the rear end after they rolled the truck over to continue. Obsession was next with a 23 and a solid performance from Rick Swanson. The rest of the trucks finished with Tropical Thunder 17, Time Flys and Jurassic Attack both had 15 Followed by Maniac with a 14.
