Weekend Race Recap

FRIDAY -
The second and final Monster Jam event for the year at the John Paul Jones Arena was full of surprised for monster Jam fans news and old. Unlike Friday Night's event the Saturday show began without any sign of a problem. Grave Digger who rolled in the openings on Friday thrilled fans with his entrance at the beginning of the event.

18 year old Jeremy Slifco and his Backdraft truck brought fans to their feet at introductions as many of the fans in the stands were college students who came out to watch and see what the young man had to offer in freestyle, racing, donuts and the wheelie contest. The team of Avenger and Brutus brought their A-game to the night as did Carl Van Horn in Pure Adrenalin and Chris Baker driving El Toro Loco. It was electric from the moment fans entered the arena till the very end of the night's action.

The night saw Grave Digger double down in racing and freestyle but it was Avenger who won the Wheelie Competition for the second night in a row and Carl Van Horn who took the crown in the donut contest.

The night saw one roll over from Pure Adrenalin in the first few seconds of his freestyle run. Carl Van Horn was fine due to the safety equipment on all Monster Jam vehicles. Pure Adrenalin score of 14 reflected his short time on the track. Brutus gave fans over :60 of non-stop action ending his run with a jump over the car/van stack. The Brutus freestyle was so fast that the brakes heated to red hot and a small leak in a hydraulic line started a small but spectacular fire under the truck. Monster Jam officials were quick to put the fire out with no further problems.

It was Grave Digger who captured the hearts of the Charlottesville fans with his cyclones during freestyle. "I had some trouble getting traction out here due to the fluid Brutus left on the track so I took advantage of it and went for donuts and cyclones", said Randy Brown after winning the competition.
