Weekend Race Recap
Saturday Afternoon
With tight floor conditions the Monster Jam Drivers had their work cut out for them. The obstacles called for a very precise plan of attack. Iron Outlaw driven by Joe Miller was the first to hit the floor and started strong with a huge wheelie off the crush cars the judges saw his run as a solid 16. Full Boar came on to the floor and was getting a rhythm going when a missed turned caused him to have to back up scrubbing valuable points off his tally. El Matador had a crowd electrified with using the throttle to whip the truck in line for some massive hits. He would take the lead with an 18. Devastator was the only guy to use the rebound of the crush cars to force the front of the truck into a full power wheelie. He was stepping it up a hair with a score of 19. If a run was about timing Rolling Thunder came on strong but it was after the clock had run dry. The doughnut was the only one we saw this afternoon but being after the buzzer he got great response from the crowd but the judges saw it as a 13. King Krunch had some mechanical problems after racing and would be unable to return for freestyle. Two trucks left to go and Grave Digger would be out first. He was driven today by Paul Cohen due to the fact that Dennis Anderson fell seriously ill with the flu. He filled some shoes with a run that seemed to be driven by the Master himself. Paul’s only problem is when he stuck a wall and was shut off causing a major point deduction allowing him to take the lead but would it be enough. His score would be a 23. Bounty Hunter driven by Jim Creten was last out and he brought his a game. He was already winner of the wheelie contest and also took the race win. Did he have what it takes to sweep the afternoon? He did! With a near flawless run and no penalties he would score a 25 leaving him with a great afternoon with Monster Jam. Could he be the Driver to beat this weekend? Only time will tell.
Saturday Night
Talk about an exciting race final and the lead up to it! The lead in story is the breakage that happened. Bounty Hunter broke in the Wheelie comp; they got him going to the races. Then Grave Digger broke and his crew set to work on installing a new trans.King Krunch was unable to re-fire so we had the fast loser and the second fast loser having to battle it out for a place in the main. The main came down to Jimmy Creten which meant he was on his way to owning the Chicago show. He was in the final all he had to do was beat Iron Outlaw. It was not to be as Joe would stop the winning streak for Bounty Hunter.
Now freestyle came down to a three man battle. The players in the game, Rolling Thunder who was able to get the doughnut in the run so that would heavily weigh on the minds of the judges as the saw fit to give him a 22. Grave Digger was back in the fight after an amazing run by his crew to get Paul Cohen going. He was on fire from the green light. Big air was the first thing on his mind as he let the Big Dog EAT. He would land a solid well deserved 26. Jimmy Creten was in control of his own destiny. He knew Grave Digger would come out hot after the breakage in racing. The use of the course was right, the big air was right but without the throttle hammered to the floor he was going to fall one point short and finish in second
Sunday - A sold out crowd got their fill today as the new boss in Chicago was Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter. He set the pace fast as the weekend started. Three wins for three in the wheelie comp. He set the first afternoon of competition, and took a freestyle win on Sunday. Paul Cohen was an unbelievable driver in Grave Digger with a story of being taken out in the first show of racing in the first round, in the second show he broke and was out before he started, and today took home a win in the 1800-SAFE-AUTO Race finals. Drives took a vote to make the freestyle motocross into play and he used it all. Bounty Hunter was the only driver to hit the FMX ramp up the back side and talk about WOW not only for the judges but the crowd also. He would take the win and set the pace as we start finalizing the roster for Las Vegas.
