Weekend Race Recap
Friday:

Monster Jam was back at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum for three shows with six of the best Monster trucks in the business. The night started off with Steve Sims accepting the World Finals flag for his second trip to Las Vegas in two years. Sims was excited to be picked as the 20th truck to qualify with his awesome Stone Crusher truck.

Three competitions were scheduled for tonight and the first was the wheelie contest. Mopar Magic was first to go and wowed the crowd and the judges to take the early lead and eventually the win with a score of 28. This was the highest score I have seen for a truck that had to go first but it was worth it. Rickey Ownley stood Mopar on its tail gate and the truck stopped right there as it teetered back and forth until Ricky popped it into reverse to bring the front end down. WOW! Pastrana was second with a 27 followed by Safe Auto and Grave Digger with scores of 24. Turtle was next with a 22 and Stone Crusher rounded out the field with a 16.

The 1-800-Safe Auto racing was next and Grave Digger took the win after coming back as fast looser from a loss in round one. Digger defeated Stone Crusher in the finals in a very close race. Digger made it there as fast looser coming from round one when he was beat by Stone Crusher and the defeated Safe Auto in the semi finals. Stone Crusher made it to the finals with wins over Digger and Pastrana 199. In other racing action Safe Auto defeated Mopar Magic in round one, and Pastrana defeated Turtle in their battle.

Freestyle was awesome, and with the caliber of drivers and trucks each performance was as exciting as the next. Mopar Magic was the first to go in the UTI freestyle and hit the large van stack twice in his run to take the early lead with a 17. Turtle did the same and tied Mopar for the lead as Pastrana 199 fell short on his run and scored only a 13. Stone Crusher and Safe Auto raised the bar and both tied with scores of 21 with some sick air but it wouldn’t be enough as Grave Digger was last to go. Grave Digger came out with style and burst his way to the Double Down as he flew Digger so high he just about hit the score board hanging over the Coliseum floor with a score of 25.

Team Texas defeated team Mississippi two races to one in the Southern Quality Ford Dealers quad war challenge. The fans were not happy but I’m sure they will be back tomorrow after noon for more.

Saturday Afternoon:

The weather was perfect this afternoon as the waves were crashing in on the beach across from the Coliseum. The fans were filing in to see their favorite Monster Jam trucks and they got an instant wow when Pastrana 199 scored a perfect 30 in the wheelie contest to start the afternoon off. I told you in last nights recap that I thought Mopar Magics Wheelie was awesome you should have seen Patrana’s. Cam set the 199 truck on its tailgate and stood it in the air for a good 20 seconds as he thru it into reverse to set it back down as the fans were screaming for more. Safe Auto was second with a score of 24 as Mopar, Stone Crusher and Turtle tied with scores of 19. Grave Digger was last with a score of 15.

Safe Auto Minimizer took the win in the racing finals over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in a very close race. Safe Auto made it there by defeating Pastrana in round one and Grave Digger in the semi finals. Turtle made it there by beating Mopar Magic in round and fast looser Pastrana 199 in the semi finals. In other action Grave Digger defeated Stone Crusher in his first round battle.

Freestyle carried the same momentum as the wheelie contest. There was a lot of sick air and great saves that led Stone Crusher to his first win of the weekend that was a tie with Grave Digger. The two drivers really deserved it so there was no tie breaker as the official scored both of them the winner with scores of 22. Safe Auto was second with a 20 followed by a solid run from Mopar and Turtle with scores of 16. Pastrana rounded out the field of trucks with a 12 as his truck was shut off early in his freestyle because of a broken part on his truck. More still to come later tonight with one more show.

Saturday Night:
A near sell out crowd was on hand and ready for the start of the Southern Quality Ford Dealers Monster Jam. The night started off with some more awesome wheelies as each truck was going for broke to try and take the last three wins of the weekend. Mopar Magic again started the wheelie competition off with a huge wheelie that landed him another win with a score of 27. Pastrana 199 was a close second with a 26 followed by Safe Auto with a 25. The competition was close as Grave Digger scored a 21 for fourth place and Stone Crusher scored a 20. Turtle rounded out the field with a 17.
The 1-800-SAFE AUTO racing finals was very close as a different truck took the racing victory. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle took the racing win in the finals over his team mate Grave Digger which was a photo finish. Turtle made it to the finals again by beating Safe Auto in round one and Stone Crusher as fast looser in the semi finals. Grave Digger made his way to the finals with wins over Stone Crusher and Pastrana 199. In other racing action Pastrana 199 defeated Mopar Magic in his first round battle.
Universal Technical Institute freestyle was next and each truck again, tried to prove who was going to be the king of freestyle here at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Grave Digger ruled again by taking the freestyle win by one point over Safe Auto with a score of 25. Stone Crusher fell short but had a great freestyle showing the crowd why he was chosen for the world finals and a score of 19. Mopar Magic, Pastrana 199 and Turtle all tied with scores of 16.
There is only two more weeks to go until Las Vegas.  I can’t wait to see all of you great Monster Jam fans at the World finals, but it will have to wait as I am off to Baton Rouge next week.
