Weekend Race Recap
Friday:
The fans at the Monster Jam in Albuquerque got their moneys worth. The only venue in the nation that has dirt table tops for racing lanes, and the first to see the fireworks style grand finale of Monster Jam Freestyle. The night started with GraveDigger going huge off of the dirt table tops, and that was just the introductions. Digger ended up winning the wheelie contest, then went on to win the racing and freestyle competitions.
Thing 1 and Thing 2, Aaron and Darin Basl, the drivers of The Turtle truck and El Matador went at it in round one of racing as if it were the World Finals. The twin brother do not like to lose and especially detest it when it is to their look a like. They both were launching the race lanes like it was freestyle, but unfortunately, the left rear tire broke off of El Matador ending the heads up race one corner before the finish. The Turtle eventually lost to a hard charging and very adept driver in David Smith and King Krunch. This set up the race between Digger and the King. Digger came out on top, but the real winners were the fans that got to see 2 of the best in the business handle their trucks like the were go carts.
Freestyle was all new to the fans in Albuquerque. Once freestyle got underway, it did not stop until the last truck was done. No stopping for scores, no waiting to clear the track. When the light went red on a freestyle run, the next truck was on the floor and the light went green again. Huge air, big donuts, and fast pace made for a super exciting freestyle to end the night.

Saturday:
Non stop action and incredible motorsport talent. High flying, dirt spitting, metal carnage. Just a few phrases that could sum up the weekend in Albuquerque. The Monster Trucks, Street Warriorz and the Quad Wars all performed above and beyond expectations. The pace of the Monster Jam was set on high, the crowd was frenetic and the performers all were smiling from ear to ear.
Charles Benz, the driver of the Pit Bull Monster Truck, put on a career highlight performance on the final day in Tingley. With all of the ties that he has to the community, like the Carrie Tingley Hospital, the Locks Of Love program and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Charles was set and ready to deliver for his fans in his hometown. Josh, a Make-A-Wish kid of Charles' was in the crowd and the Pit Bull dedicated his Sky Wheelie performance to him. Pit Bull ended up winning the competition, with the little extra that Josh gave Charles in just making it to the event. Lots of kids from the Carrie Tingley Hospital were here tonight as well, rooting on their hometown hero. Charles will donate his Monster Jam winnings to the children's hospital before he leaves the venue tonight. Next week the Pit Bull truck and team will spend time at the hospital for those who were unfortunately unable to attend Monster Jam. After the win in the Wheelie Contest, Charles did not let up. He raced his way to the main event of obstacle course racing and nearly came away with the win. King Krunch made it to victory lane and was quick to give props to the Pit Bull, as it seems he was down to only 7 cylinder in the final. In Freestyle, the Pit Bull kept it rolling. Literally. At the end of his wild freestyle run, that included donuts, reverse jumps and big air, Charles ended up putting the truck over on it lid. The crowd loved it and Charles made even more fans in his hometown.
Grave Digger was not to be denied tonight. After breaking the rear end in the wheelie contest, Pablo and the Digger were out until freestyle. Digger had to knock one out of the park, due to Dave Smith and Kink Krunch turning in one of that teams patented freestyle runs. David will be a world champ someday. He is that good. Pablo had a great run and the judges gave Digger the nod for an impressive comeback and awesome driver ability.
