Weekend Race Recap
Friday -
The Energy Solutions Arena found all the solutions it would ever need to energize the Utah Monster Jam fans. After all, the IS the home of the University of Utah Utes! The 13-0 Utes I might add. But now it's time for Monster Jam….
With Friday night attendance tracking extremely well (as has been the case for most Monster Jams in 2009), everyone was ready for some good hard racing and a dose of CARNAGE!!!! And that is what they got!
With ramps extremely steep and trucks running at the perfect temp it made for some spectacular Wheelies and the fans went insane! Especially with the number of Utah drivers in the field, it did not take much to get people fired up.
Wheelie Contest results:
1. Maximum Destruction (Kreg Christensen) 23
2. Backwards Bob ( Mike Wine) 22
3. Blue Thunder (Tony Farrel) 18
4. Bulldozer (Chuck Warner) 17
5. Sudden Impact (Brandon LaGarde) 16
6. Airborne Ranger (Joe Cypher) 13
7. Mavric (Ron Duncombe) 12
8. Energy Activator (Sean Duhon) 10
Then it was right into racing for the Monsters, and they were set on "Bad Fast: The drivers were extremely happy with the dirt and that made them go for it huge. Remember, a short drag track puts driver skill at a premium, and we had some of the best in the Nation with us in Utah…
Racing results:
1. Energy Activator
2. Blue Thunder
3. Airborne Ranger
4. Backwards Bob
It was then time to start knocking out the Street warriors one by one and they came to race. The track featured 2 big jumps and a nasty set of whoop's. The cars were well prepared and fast. Here are the results:
1. Brady Sessions
2. Craig Day
Then it was time for High Flying Freestyle motocross and it is a good thing we had a big , high ceiling or the riders would have hit their helmets on the rafters. Big air and huge tricks like, Rock-Solids, Heel- Clickers and Walk-the - Dog were the norm and on the final train out Jesse Jolson hit a huge BACKFLIP!!! Trevor Vines and Tom O'Brien were fantastic as they made it look do easy!!!
FMX Results
1. Jesse Jolson
2. Trevor Vines
3. Tim O'brien
Next up was Monster Freestyle and it was well worth the wait as each driver did things with their trucks that I don't think they knew they could do on the floor of the Energy Solutions Arena. Big air, donuts and slap wheelies were common place, but no-one expected to see the trucks as high in the air as they were! It was incredible!!!
Freestyle results:
1. Blue Thunder 25
2. Backwards Bob 24
3. Maximum Destruction 22
4. Bulldozer 19
5. Energy Activator 18
6. Sudden Impact 13
7. Mavric 11
8. Airborne Ranger 9
All in all it was a grat show and we still have 2 more to do tomorrow! The Utah fans loved every minute of the show, and I am sure they will be here tomorrow and the show at night as well!!!! Utah, is an incredible Monster Jam Town!!!

Saturday 02-14-09 Salt Lake City, UT VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
After a crazy, fast-paced Friday night show in the Energy Solutions Arena there was more than just "LOVE" in the air in Utah. With snow falling heavy outside the venue, it set the perfect stage for HOT racing in the arena. The racing on Friday night was intense and with two shows on this day not only were points and titles up for grabs, but it was a great place to get the final boost of adrenaline before the long stretch run to the NGK Spark Plug World Finals a mere six weeks away!!!
With Max-D (Kreg Christensen) winning the wheelie contest on Friday, 7 other drivers were not going to let that happen again...at least that was their plan. The trucks seem to have a mind of their own. They all slammed the car-stack with vigor and all the drivers could do it tell you what color the ceiling was because that is about all they were able to see!
Wheelie Contest Results 2PM
2PM- Maximum Destruction / Kreg Christensen 25, Backwards Bob / Mike Wine 23 , Bulldozer / Chuck Warner 19, Tie- Blue Thunder / Tony Farrel & Maverick / Ron Ducombe 16 , Energy Activator / Sean Dunon 15 , Sudden Impact / Brandon Lagarde 14, Airborne Ranger / Joe Cypher
7PM- Again, it was Maximum Destruction who won the Monster Wheelie contest with a 26, followed by Bulldozer a 20 and Maverick with a 19. Sudden Impact scored a 18, Backwards Bob a 17, a 16 for Blue Thunder and a 13 for Energy Activator.
Monster truck Racing was again a highlight of the show by displaying raw horsepower and driver skill. Friday's winner was Sean Duhon in Energy Activator but tonight he may as well placed a Bulls-eye on his fire suit because he became a marked man with his impressive win on Friday night!
Monster Racing results 2PM - Maverick, Bulldozer, Max-D, Blue Thunder.
Monster Racing results 7:30PM - Maximum Destruction bested Bulldozer for the win. Max-D beat Maverick to get to the final and Energy Activator was beat by Bulldozer witch created our final.
Street Warriors were a great addition to the show as the racers brought their home-made race machines to do battle on the fairly ruff race track that they ran on. The crowd loved them and they drove their wheels of to try to get a win!
Street Warrior winner 2PM - Brady Sessions 14.00 time best of show!
Street Warrior winner for the 7:30PM show was Craig Day, Day had been close at each show and this time it all went his way.
FMX was incredible...we had Tim O'Brien, Trevor Vines and Jesse Jolson and these three riders were spectacular to say the least!!! Superman air, heel Clickers, Rock Solids and cliff hangers were the norm. And the last jump from Jesse was a full on back flip!!! The crowd went ballistic!!!! The same can be said for both shows, our trio of riders we a crowd favorite!!!
Monster Jam Freestyle was exactly what you would expect from a field this loaded....INSANE!!! Donuts, Wheelies, sideways hits and slide skids were common place. Blue Thunder won on Friday and he would have to be even better to win on Saturday! It was absolute carnage on the floor of the arena. For a smaller venue, it was no-doubt one of the best freestyle sessions of the season!
Monster Jam Freestyle results 2PM - Blue Thunder 26, Backwards Bob 24, Tie Max-D / Bulldozer 22, Energy Activator 16, Airborne Ranger 11 and Sudden Impact 9
Monster Jam Freestyle 7:30PM was an all out war!!! It was all about big air and fast donuts and Maximum Destruction was the winner in what I would call on of the best freestyle runs this announcer has ever witnessed in an arena! Airborne Range flipped over and Blue Thunder broke early in the run, but it was due to the huge air these guys we getting. Results for the Freestyle were as follows:
1. Max-D 24, Backwards Bob 18 , Bulldozer 17 , Energy Activator 15 , Maverick 14 , Airborne Ranger 11 and Blue Thunder DNF!!!
The crowd was so loud it was hard to hear, but it was a great show....I hope I come back here next year!!!!
The Utah fans are use to seeing good stuff all the time, just like their 13-0 Utes NCAA football team! I would say that this trio of events was a huge TOUCHDOWN for the Monster Jam fans in Utah!
