Weekend Race Recap

Friday - 7:30PM
The city of Baltimore came to life as Monster Jam roared into the Arena.

The all-star line up was on their A game. The only disappointment was GraveDigger blowing a tranny in the opening round of elimination drag racing. Pablo and Grave Digger did Double Down on Friday night. First taking a win in the taster of freestyle, the Sky Wheelie Competition. Then later on winning the actual Freestyle competition. You can definitely tell why Pablo is the defending World Champ. The pace and speed, and RPM Pablo maintains through out his time in the truck it AWESOME. He can make a truck both sing and dance. Andy Slifko and Eradicator are another pair to watch. Andy is a gut that could end up with a world championship trophy in the ego room. Aaron Basl is also one to watch. One of these days that kid is gonna get his shot at the World Final, and then win it all. He is fast becoming one of the best arena drivers on the tour, and being teamed up with Pablo, he has one of the best in the business to learn from.

Saturday

Saturday in Baltimore had every different kind of action one could ever expect at Monster Jam, from mid air rollovers, massive metal carnage, tight racing and exceptional freestyles.

The mechanical failures, actually gives the wrong impression, it is hard to say failure when the drivers and the trucks are abused in the way that the fans of Monster Jam have come to expect. In the afternoon show, AfterShock had a midair twist that brought the truck down violently on its side, tearing the entire front nose clip off the truck. Next the Turtle truck launched the van stack pyramid at the start of his freestyle run and broke the front axle housing in half leaving the Turtle truck crippled and out of action for the rest of the day. In the night show the mechanical gremlins raised their ugly head once again.

The Eradicator was unable to make the wheelie contest or racing but did get things patched up enough to make Freestyle, only to have more mechanical problems that ended his run short of the 60 seconds. With the Turtle truck out of action, Taz which happened to be in the parking lot came in to replace the Turtle. Aaron Basl took the both of the racing wins on Saturday. IN the afternoon he won in the Turtle and then came back during the night show and won in Taz.

Unfortunately, Taz had a mechanical problem at the end of Aarons run that kept the kid from showing what he can do and kept the score from the judges down as well. With Eradicator having mechanical issues, the Suzuki truck that travels with Taz was also put into action. The fans in Baltimore definitely got the price of a ticket out of Monster Jam on Saturday. More trucks added every show, how can you ask for more than that?

Sunday - 2:00PM
Monster Jam came to an end with Paul Huffaker and Grave Digger putting on the kind of show only Paul can do in a hockey arena. Flying higher and farther, beating the truck in ways the rest of the best just don't do. Paul is the reigning Freestyle World Champ, and you can see why he has the title and has always been a contender every year in Vegas.

Andy Slifko finally got on to the Advance Auto Parts Podium, taking the win in the Wheelie Contest. Eradicator was by far the best in the contest, although the judges had scored it a tie with Grave Digger, the Hot Rod Officials hold the final point, and issued it, deservingly, to Eradicator. Andy and team had chased a tranny problem all weekend, and the 3rd one seemed to do the trick.

Aaron Basl had to baby the Turtle truck on Sunday. A super hard hit over the van stack had wounded the Turtle. Breaking the left front knuckle off of the truck. Some welding rod, sweat, blood and silicon were holding the front end of the truck together. Even though Aaron had to take it easy, the Turtle truck was still very exciting and competitive.

Lou Antonozzi went for broke in the Broker. Skywheelies that sat on the tailgate and walked across the crush cars, to a wild Freestyle run that held the number 1 spot until Paul and Grave Digger won it. Lou and The Broker had a stellar run. Hard on the throttle and the truck, Lou had a killer flow and rhythm to his run which had the crowd screaming for more.
