Weekend Race Recap

Friday -

The freezing rain outside didn't stop the fans from rocking the Kansas Coliseum tonight. The first of three shows was awesome tonight with four events and three different winners!

The first event was the Monster Truck Wheelie Competition. The scores were very close and fair. Six awesome trucks were here this weekend. The trucks would try to stand their trucks straight up and down and carry the front wheels over the five crushed cars. The one point victory would go to Chad Fortune driving Superman with a score of 27.

The event quickly went into Monster Truck Racing. All of the races were really close. Round One: Rolling Thunder defeated Pastrana 199, Samson defeated Devastator, and Superman defeated Full Boar. The semi-finals were even closer than round one: Devastator came back as fast loser and defeated Superman. Samson defeated Rolling Thunder driven by Jim Bendzick. The finals would come down to Samson driven by Dan Patrick up against Mark Schroeder in Devastator. The near photo finish would go to Devastator.

Then we went right into Monster Truck Donut Competition. Once again the scores were very close. The last truck would take another one point victory with a score of 28. Ed Eckert, driving Full Boar, would throw off his steering wheel in the middle of his run. The crowd went crazy.

The final event of the night would be crowd favorite, Monster Truck Freestyle. The scores were as follows: Rolling Thunder 20, Pastrana 199 with 23, Samson would go next and get a 24 and take the lead, Full Boar would get a 23, next would be Devastator with a 27, and the final truck would be Superman. The crowd went crazy, but the judges wouldn't like his run as much as the crowd did. Superman would score a 26.

The Freestyle winner would be Devastator.

Saturday -

The weather got worse outside, but the action heated up the Kansas Coliseum tonight. The near full house was treated to an awesome Thunder National. Four events and four different winners. The first event tonight was Monster Truck Wheelie Contest. The scores were really low tonight but very fair. Three judges would decide on Jim Bendzick, driving Rolling Thunder, with a score of 23. The second event would be Monster Truck Racing. Brackets were set from the Wheelie Contest.

The racing was just as exciting as Friday Night. Round One: Pastrana 199 driven by Courtney Jolly defeated Rolling Thunder, Samson defeated Devastator, and Superman would defeat Full Boar. Semi-finals looked like this: Samson defeated Pastrana 199, and Superman defeated fast looser Rolling Thunder. Then we had the finals. The veteran against the man of steel. Dan Patrick in Samson would take the win by a wheel. Samson your race winner.

Up next was the Donut Competition. Again the scores were close. The highest scores of the night would come in the Donut Competition. The last truck of the night would take the steering wheel off and toss it out the window. Ed Eckert would take the win by one point in Full Boar. The final event of the night was Monster Truck Freestyle. Again the last truck would take the win. The high score for freestyle was a 24. The crowd was going crazy as Chad Fortune climbed on top of Superman. Superman was the freestyle winner!

Sunday -

The weather got worse outside but the action was still hot inside the Kansas Coliseum today. Four events for the drivers today. Three different winners. An awesome Thunder National. The first event of the afternoon was the Wheelie Contest. Three lucky fans were picked as judges this afternoon. Who would stand the Monster truck straight up and down the best today? The scores were pretty low but very fair. Taking the win would be the Minnesota driver Jim Bendzick in Rolling Thunder. The brackets were set for Monster Truck Racing. The brackets were set from the finish order of the Wheelie contest. Rolling Thunder defeated Pastrana 199, Samson defeated Devastator, and Superman defeated Full Boar in the first round.

The second round was even closer than the first one. Samson would defeat Pastrana 199(fast loser), and Superman would defeat Rolling Thunder in the semi-finals. The crafty veteran and the superhero in the finals. Samson would get the whole shot and not look back. Dan Patrick in Samson would take the win.

After intermission, the Monster Trucks would do battle in the Donut competition. The scores got really high in this competition. We had a tie with a score of 28 until the last truck came out and stepped it up a notch. Chad Fortune in Superman would do Donuts in both directions smoking his tires the whole time. Superman would be the Donut winner.

The final event of the Thunder Nationals this weekend would be Monster Truck Freestyle. The track crew would bring out a van stack and also stack the racing lanes higher. All of the scores of the judges were in the twenties for Freestyle. Tearing the floor apart, each truck would get better as they came out. The final truck of the afternoon would be the Man of Steel. Superman would tear the place apart. The score and the win would go to Superman with a 28.
