Weekend Race Recap
Saturday: 7:30 PM-
A few rather new names "nudged" the veterans tonight, but in the end
it was the years of experience that won out in every facet of the monster truck
competition. In monster racing qualifying, it was relative new comer that made
even the cagiest of veterans take notice. Not only did we have brothers behind
the wheel of a monster tonight, but "twin" brothers. It was one of those
two young guns that set the time to beat. Blacksmith and Aaron Basl was the brother
that had the rest scratching their race helmets. He also worked his way up to
the semi-finals, but in the end, seat time and years of competition won out as
Norm Miller and the big Blue Thunder Ford quietly worked his way into the finals
and the win.
In the Stadium Pro-Truck competition 8 trucks qualified to complete the field.
Working their way through a bracket system of two trucks at a time, and in the
end it was the Jeep Wrangler out of Modesto, CA and Randy Avery taking the final
checkers.
With the Suzuki Motorcycles free-style motocross coming next, the fans in the
seats had NO idea what was to come. HECK!!!! The USHRA officials had no idea either
for that matter. The contest started out rather tame, but ended up ROCKIN THE
HOUSE!!!
Kenny Bell, Tim O'Brien, Destin Cantrell, Mark Phillips, and Darren Wright
kicked out trick after viscous trick. Every run seemed more violent but yet
poetic pass after pass. On the very last jump off the 75' gaps, the last rider,
Mark Phillips NAILED not one, but TWO HUGE BLACKFLIPS! To say that a few flashbulbs
went off is putting MILDLY!
The last thing up tonight was the Snap-On Tools Monster Truck Free-style competition.
Even with 10 trucks running in front of him, Pablo Huffaker and Grave-Digger
STOMPED and I mean STOMPED the entire field of 11 trucks with an absolutely
PERFECT run and PERFECT score of 30! At the closing of the night and after all
the interviews were done, still no one was leaving. If you can have the "warm
fuzzies" with thousands of fans tonight was the night. I hate to say this
but it will be another year before we are back, but we hope to see you down
the road at a Monster Jam event sometime soon.
