Weekend Race Recap

Friday: 2/04/05

It was a hard night for trucks in Fargo. The Pastrana 199 truck broke the rear steering during introductions. The Godzilla truck lost his steering in the qualifying round of racing. Kaptain Insano had oil trickle down on to the headers, creating a huge inferno of flames every time Brian Christensen stomped on the gas. Digger broke a rear drive axle, and he had to limp around at 60% power for most of the night. Rolling Thunder and Dragon Slayer were the only 2 trucks with relatively no problems and won their way in to the racing main event. Kreg Christensen and his truck the Dragon Slayer have always been one of the top trucks and the toughest to beat on any night. Proving it once again with a hard fought win over Jim Bendzick and Rolling Thunder in racing.

With all of the metal carnage early in the night it made for an abbreviated freestyle. Rolling Thunder and Dragon Slayer were again on top of the leader board with 26 and 28 point scores respectively. Grave Digger was the last to go and scored a perfect 30 to win. It should have been no more than a 27, but the judge’s hold the power.

Saturday: 2/05/05

After all of the trucks having mechanical problems the night before, this night turned into what the fans came to see. The 199 truck, Grave Digger and Dragon Slayer, the 3 big guns all kept their machinery running thru out the night. Godzilla once again went out early with steering problems. Kaptain Insano broke his rear drive unit, giving up a tire and wheel for the Grave Digger team who had blown a tire in intros. With Insano and Godzilla out it came down to the above 4 mentioned trucks. In the racing main event Digger met Slayer. Both drivers know how to win but on this night it was Kreg Christensen and his powerful Dragon Slayer beating the black and green wrecking machine.

Freestyle was insane!! Dragon Slayer set the bar with a high score, but Paul Cohen and the 199 truck took it to the next level. Skying off the freestyle motocross landing ramp, blasting the van and car stack, and ending with a dizzying cyclone until the truck lifted and then slammed down on its side then over on to the roof. The crowd went into frenzy and the judges posted a 30 point score. Digger was last and after Pauls freestyle, Charlie Paukins knew he would have to drive the wheels off Digger just to tie. Digger tried. Hit the huge ramp for the big air. Slammed the van stack and tried to ride a slam wheelie that got ugly. The truck teetered back and forth on the rear wheels, never again able to gain total control before it whip slammed over on to the concrete and slid down to Smoke n' Joe and the dirt guy’s feet as he sat in the skid steer. The judges docked points for not using the full 60 seconds. Digger ended up with a 28 point score. The 199 truck got a much-deserved win!!
