Weekend Race Recap
Friday:
The Monster Jam came rolling into Albuquerque with an action packed Friday night.
The action started off with Monster Truck Qualifying followed by Quad Wars. The
awesome crowd at the Tingley Coliseum got to see some wicked Monster Truck Freestyle
to finish the night out.
The Monster Truck
Qualifying set up the brackets for side by side Chicago style Monster Truck
Racing. The fast qualifier was Phil Foster driving Maximum Destruction. The
racing was super close all night narrowing down the field to just two trucks.
In the final we had Grave Digger driven by Pablo Huffaker going head- to- head
against El Matador driven by Daron Basil. Grave Digger pulled out the win to
the delight of the crowd.
Up next the already
excited crowd got to see some bar banging, elbow-to-elbow Quad Wars. The home
team was looking for a win but in the last corner after the New Mexico Lottery
woops section team Las Vegas ran into the race leader. Team Las Vegas took the
win. Much to the crowds cheering the Team Albuquerque team captain came straight
out to the Vegas team captain and asked for a Captain's Challenge. The crowd
went crazy as the two captains lined up for the two lap grudge match. The win
went to the home town team, Team Albuquerque.
Since the crowd
was so loud and fired up we went straight into Monster Truck Freestyle. One
truck at a time and anything goes. The first truck out of the tunnel, El Matador,
set a high score of 27 with an amazing run. The fans got more excited as each
truck came out and the last truck was none other than Grave Digger who let it
all hang out. Grave Digger took the win in freestyle with the only perfect score
of the night!

Round One:
Maximum Destruction had a bye run due to King Krunch breaking in Qualifying
Hot Wheels defeated Black Smith
Grave Digger defeated El Matador
Semi-Final:
Grave Digger defeated Hot Wheels
El Matador (fast looser) defeated Maximum Destruction who broke in the last
corner.
Final:
Grave Digger defeated El Matador

Saturday:
The packed house
in the Tingley Coliseum got to see a great show tonight! The started off with
Monster Truck Qualifying. The fast qualifier was Grave Digger driven by Pablo
Huffaker. The action then quickly moved to the Quad Wars. The riders went at it
with 2 qualifying heat races. The Quad War main event was just that a "Quad
War". The main event winner was Team Las Vegas. Immediately following the
victory the home team asked the USHRA officials for a grudge match between the
two team captains. The 2 lap match was won by Team Albuquerque.
As soon as our
track crew had the track race ready we had one of the closest finishes of the
year with Maximum Destruction, driven by Phil Foster, took the win over Grave
Digger. The race was a photo finish!
The finale of the
show was Monster Truck Freestyle. Each truck came out one at a time and let
loose for sixty second of mayhem. The trucks performed better as each truck
went. The crowd was on their feet almost the entire Freestyle Competition. The
Freestyle winner was Grave Digger with the only perfect score of a 30!
