Weekend Race Recap

Thursday
The monsters of the United States Hot Rod Association returned to Speedway 95 Thurday night for the first of four big events.

The Bangor Motorsports FMX proved to be a crowd favorite as Casey Higgins of Rochester N.Y. won the crowds approval in a hard fought battle against Scott Murray and Greg Hartman. No handed landings, superman seat grabs and big air kept fans on the edge of their seet but in the end it was Higgins no-handed landing that brought the house to its feet.

Street Warriors came from the entire region to compete. In the final round Don Cinanci rolled his Team Nasty truck giving the win to Matt Randall and his Extreme Tonka 2 vehicle. Other notable moments during the competition was the new truck rolled out by John Killinger and newby Eddie Frost who rolled his "Kami's Truck" in the semi final round. It was Frosts first Street Warrior event and one he will never forget. "John,(Killinger) told me to just floor it, hold on and steer and that is what I did. Guess I went into the turn a bit fast but I will be back tomorrow", vowed the newcomer.

Monster racing saw World Champion GraveDigger take the win in a tough competition.

Freestyle began with John Seasock setting the bar high. His highflying action in the truck and the track surfing at the end of :60 seconds was incredible.

Andy Slifco took it up a notch in Eradicator gaining an extra point from the judges.
Chad Tingler got some big air aboard Adrenaline and also did the first donut of the night.
Rick Raab used his driving skills to light up the night demonstrating to the fans the unique flame throwing ability. Raab and the American Guardian truck were a force to contend with all night long.

With Guardian in the lead Randy Brown had his work cut out for him if GraveDigger was going to win. He came out with determined to impress the judges and he did. Two cyclones, a couple of high jumps clearing both stacks of cars and a launch over the infield wall earned him a perfect score of 30.

Friday night the doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 8:pm with tickets available at the door.

Friday:
The monsters came in for the second night of action performing to a large crowd at Speedway 95 in Bangor Friday night.

The night began with 11 street warriors, 5 monsters and three FMX competitors and ended with only one winner in each.

The Bangor Motorsports FMX competitors were dazzling in their event. Scott Murray, Greg Hartman, and Casey Higgins thrilled the fans with trick over the 70 foot jump. In the end it was a repeat win for Higgins who again was able to pull off a no handed landing after doing an incredible rock solid.

Street Warriors were again dominated by Matt Randall driving his Extreme Tonka 2 to the second win in as many nights. His time of 22.53 for the long and challenging course was the fastest of the night and only John Killinger came even close with a first found time of 23.25.

Monster Race Results:

Even the mighty GraveDigger failed to impress the harsh judges in freestyle. While the judging was hard the fans cheered wildly as John Seasock saved Sudden Impact from an almost certain rollover. Rick Raab got a standing ovation for his flamethrowing save as American Guardian went on two side tires after a jump over the Advance Auto Parts Pyramid.

Showtimes Saturday are at 2pm and 8pm

Saturday 2PM:
It's said that things look different in daylight and that may be true when it comes to seeing the starting light for Rick Raab who driver American Guardian. Rick was finally able to cut a good light and get past World Racing Champion GraveDigger Saturday afternoon at Speedway 95 in Bangor Maine.

"We worked on the truck after last nights event and got up early today to put the rear end back together," said Raab after the race. "I really wanted this one and I finally got him", he said with a big grin. In the back of his mind he knew Randy Brown and GraveDigger would be more determined than ever to win the freestyle competition.

An injury Friday night forced FMX rider Scott Murray out of the event for Saturday afternoon. "I was just released by the doctor to ride again last week but he told me I could do more damage if I forced things. I decided to sit this one out and let my leg heal a bit more", said Murray.

Other riders in the competition were Greg Hartman and Casey Higgins. Higgins won the competition with his no-handed landing but this time added a heart attack look back before going for the no hander.

Street Warriors were again dominated by Matt Randall of Glenburn who racked up three wins in as many event so far this weekend. Randall defeated Dan Monahan in the street warrior final.

Final Round:
American Guardian over GraveDigger

Monster Freestyle:

GraveDigger 30

It was Diggers great freestyle with cyclones, high jumps and slap wheelies that brought the afternoon fans to their feet and convinced the judges to give him a perfect score.

Saturday 8PM:
The best way to get Randy Brown to turn it up a bit is to defeat him in racing. That is what happened Saturday afternoon when Amercian Guardian beat the world champion GraveDigger in racing. "I was determined to win at all costs Saturday night", said Brown. "Rick has a great truck and any of the other guys could win racing at any time so I worked on the truck myself between events to make sure it was as ready as it could be. We have a bunch of Digger fans up here and I wanted to give them all I had".

He did as Brown drove the might GraveDigger to wins in both contests.

FMX was also part of the event with three riders doing everything they could to generate cheers from the crowd. Casey Higgins again was the winner just edging Greg Hartman out in a crowd cheer-off. Bangor loved the FMX guys and they all said they wanted to come back next year when the Jam comes to town.

Street Warriors got faster when the sun went down, as Kenny Chesney would say. Some CCE-Motorsports officials gave up tickets to Kenny in order to work the event up north so we had to give them a bit of a plug. Matt Randall and John Killinger squared off in the final round with Killinger getting his Ford hung a bit in the mudd pit costing him valuable time in the final round. In the end Randall got the win giving him and his Extreme Tonka 2 truck a clear sweep for the weekend.

Monster Freestyle:
Who let the dogs out? I'm not sure but someone certainly turned the monsters on. It could have been the cool temperatures, the hotly contested competition or the deafening roar from the stands. Whatever it was, it was something to see as all the monsters took it up a bit for the final freestyle competition of the weekend.

With Eradicator out John Seasock was the first one out and began surfing on the cab of his Sudden Impact monster. From then on it was everyone playing a game of, I can do it better than you, with the winner being the fans.

Sudden Impact 20
Pure Adrenalin 25 two very nice slap wheelies
American Guardian 27 a fire show brought the fans to their feet.
GraveDigger 30 Digger began his :60 freestyle by jumping over the infield wall and roaring on to the track. Cyclone wheelier with the red headlight blazing thru the dust was an erie sight.

Drivers signed autographs for almost an hour after the event. Then everyone went to local favorite Dysarts, for a well deserved meal before heading home to end a great weekend.
