Weekend Race Recap
Albuquerque, NM (Feb. 15-17, 2002)
Friday
The Tingley Coliseum welcomed the USHRA's greatest on Friday night. The highlight of the evening was El Toro Loco's transformation. In Round 1 of the obstacle course of the drag racing competition, El Toro Loco's super run tore the horns completely off the truck. Lupe Sosa and El Toro Loco started the night off as a bull, then rendered to a cow. It was only after an awesome freestyle run that they were able to regain the "bull" status.
In the semi-finals of drag racing, Blue Thunder defeated Grave Digger and Bounty Hunter knocked of Scarlet Bandit. In the finals, it was Blue Thunder's photo finish that earned the win. Monster Freestyle was extremely competitive. After great runs from everyone, Grave Digger and El Toro Loco were tied with 28 points and shared the win.
Pro Race Trucks driver Tom Jones is no stranger to winning. He was the fastest all night both in practice and racing. The Street Warriors raced also, and local man, Doug DeGraaf won.
The crowd was treated to freestyle motocross also. After an incredible performance, Graham Gustin was named final winner with his score of 28. Right behind him was Trey Deane with 26 points.
Saturday
On Saturday, monster racing was great. In the finals, it was Grave Digger vs Blue Thunder. Blue Thunder's run was good as the night before and therefore earned the win.
Freestyle was definately one of the night's highlight's. No one could post the score set by Bounty Hunter! He was the bomb. After launching off the freestyle MX landing ramp, he nearly dragged the top of the truck on the ceiling rafters. That's the stuff you see at the Vegas World Finals!
In Pro Race Trucks, again it was Tom Jones who was fastest all night. In the freestyle motocross competition, Matt Martin, Trey Dean, and Graham Gustin were competing for the win. Matt Martin was named winner.
Sunday
El Toro Loco went three for three in roll overs this weekend. Lupe Sosa successfully rolled the truck during each event in Tingley colusium. By the end of the weekend, El Toro had no horns, a broken nose, and a dented head. The body damage did nothing to diminish the crowd or Lupe's enthusiasm. Scarlett Bandit and Bounty Hunter met in the first semi-final with wife Dawn beating husband team mate Jimmy for the win, putting Scarlett Bandit into the main.

In the second semi, Digger met Blue Thunder. Both trucks collected multiple penalties with Digger having the less of the two racers, and advanced into the final. Digger attacked the race track for the win.

Digger also went crazy in freestyle to score the first and only perfect 30 from a very savvy race crowd in the Tingley Colusium.

Tom Jones continued his domination in pro Arena Truck racing again winning the final.

Trey Dean put it together on in the final run of freestyle motocross to take
a crowd approving win.
