Weekend Race Recap
Albuquerque, NM
(October 12-13, 2001)

Friday
The fans in Albuquerque, NM were treated to an awesome display of Monster Madness Friday night. Some of the best trucks in the business thrilled the crowd with great racing and awesome freestyle. Plus, Pablo Huffaker's son, Ryan made his debut in Blacksmith.
Round one winners were Blue Thunder, Tropical Thunder, and Grave Digger. In round two, Tropical Thunder defeated Blue Thunder, while Grave Digger ousted King Krunch.
The finals were a showdown between Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger and Guy Wood in his brand new truck, Tropical Thunder. And, in stunning fashion Tropical Thunder took home the victory in its racing debut.
In the Super Trucks, it was two Grave Digger drivers, Pablo Huffaker and Scott Pointbrand who faced off in the new "mini-monsters." Pointbrand took the win in the inagural event.
And, as if there were not enough thrills provided by the monsters, Serge Beaulieu amazed the crowd for the first time ever in Albuquerque with his daring "Ring of Fire" motorcycle jump over a heard of monster trucks place from end to end!
In freestyle, Jason Witte in Wild Hair pulled off one of the most incredible wheelie's, hitting the cars, ripping the tailgate off, and nearly rolling the truck over backwards. He could have easily taken the win, but his final hit came after time had expired.
Saturday
Friday night belonged to Guy Woods new Tropical Thunder truck, and Satuday was more of the same as the finals were a repeat of the previous evening.
Tropical Thunder versus Grave Digger was the theme of the weekend, and just like Friday night, Tropical Thunder prevailed, beating Grave Digger by a half a truck length to take home another victory. Not a bad debut for the new truck!
Though Grave Digger lost the finals, Pablo was awesome as ever in the freestyle scoring a whopping 30 to take the freestyle competition on Saturday night.
