Weekend Race Recap
Baltimore, MD (February 23-24-25, 2001)
Friday
Charlie Paukens, behind the wheel of Grave Digger, took monster finals Friday night against Monster Patrol. Grave Digger also won freestyle with a score of 29 after he almost flipped his truck, but saved it doing great wheelies.
Saturday
When Monster Patrol and Scott Pontbrand blew Grave Digger away in Round 2 of racing it meant Charlie Paukens had to park Digger in the tunnel of the Baltimore Arena until freestyle. Madusa had a great freestyle but Grave Digger had something to prove. When Digger entered the race track on Saturday night there was something special about the feeling in the air, with all the flags waving in the stands you just knew Charlie Paukens and Grave Digger were going to let it all hang out, and that's what he did.
First he started by blasting down to the crush cars and started getting verticle doing wheelies and firing the fans up. Just as he was about to finish he pulled around in front of the van sitting in the middle of the cars. He backed up and punched it, Grave Digger went straight up and when he came down he bounced and flipped and landed hard on the floor. While Charlie was getting out of the truck the judges posted a 30 point score and it was a first place finish for Grave Digger.
Sunday
It was Bearfoot and Madusa on the Toyota Starting line, the kids in the stands started with their flags then came the green light and they were off. When the smoke cleared it was Brian Womack and Bearfoot that had taken the checkered flag and the win in monster final - but not by much. Madusa proved that she belongs with the best.
In Freestyle Scott Pontbrand and Monster Patrol turned in an impressive 28 points. With little sleep, Grave Digger's crew and driver spent all night fixing the truck, Grave Digger came out and performed another master freestyle and gained another perfect 30 from the judges.
