Friday 7 p.m.

For the first time in history, Monster Jam paid a visit to Florence, South Carolina and the Monster Jam crazy confines of the Florence Civic Center. A field of eight trucks came prepared to make history and fans who left the arena that night knew they had seen something special.
A full program gave the fans plenty to cheer about. From a rock roaring start, the competition turned intense with wheelies providing the first chance for the crowd to see the precision of the Monster Jam drivers. Scores stayed pretty even through the early stages of the competition until Monster Energy poked past Spider-Man to register a 22. The score held until El Toro Loco hit the floor in search of his fourth wheelie win of the 2014 season. It was mission accomplished as a pair of wheelies brought a set of 8s for a 24 and victory.
Monster Jam racing was straight line with the drivers facing the opposite direction. A close finish in the first race proved to be a costly loss for Predator, who suffered a broken planetary in addition to the narrow defeat. El Toro Loco parlayed that win to a semi-finals victory over Monster Energy. The Road to the Monster Jam World Finals championship set up an interesting matchup. The last time El Toro Loco faced Spider-man, it was World Finals 2013 and El Toro Loco prevailed. History repeated itself as El Toro Loco snared the win to give Lupe Soza his first arena racing win of the year.
The floor was cleared after intermission and drivers were directed to the wide open spaces for donut competition. Prowler took the early control until Coty Saucier’s masterful effort bumped the scores up to 23. No one could touch it until El Toro Loco thrilled the crowd with over a dozen spins. Spider-Man came close, but could not stop El Toro Loco’s third trophy of the night and first donut trophy of the year.
The fans were psyched for Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Freestyle and the wait for the start was short. Once former World Freestyle champion Lupe Soza told the crowd what was in store, everyone was ready. Prowler immediately put the bar high with a 21, but Monster Energy was up to the task with a better score of 22. Blue Thunder stepped it up to a solid 24 that endured the repaired Predator’s run. Spider-man grabbed the lead at 25, but the lead only lasted until the final truck, El Toro Loco, took care of business, pulled the sweep of all elements on opening night.
Team South Carolina edged out Team North Carolina for the Quad wars win. Megasaurus gave Florence fans a little special treat with car crushing antics.
A pair of Saturday shows close off the inaugural weekend of action for Monster Jam in Florence.

Saturday 2 p.m.

There was no shortage of intensity in the Saturday afternoon presentation as fans in Florence got a great dose of the reality of Monster Jam. After a late morning Party in the Pits, the fans settled into their seats for the start of the action that quickly arrived. The word got out that you need to show up early to get the full value of Monster Jam.
Wheelies opened the action for the afternoon contest as Spider-man roared from the opening ceremonies right in to some impressive wheelstands. An opening score of 21 meant there was some work to be done by the rest of the field and it took four trucks to move the number higher. Monster Energy pushed the bar to 22 and withstood two challengers. Friday wheelie winner El Toro Loco was determined to add a second trophy for the weekend and succeeded with a stellar job that was rewarded with a 27.
A full contingent of trucks presented itself for elimination racing, but the track was taking a bite out of competitors. War Wizard suffered a pair of bent rims with the right rear damage resulting in a flattened tire. El Toro Loco suffered sway bar damage and Monster Energy’s crew went to work on front steering problems between rounds. In the semi-finals, Monster Energy was able to get past Blue Thunder. In the remaining race, a rematch of last night’s final round action put El Toro Loco on the line against Spider-man. This time, Spider-man prevailed. It set out a final round similar to what fans in Memphis experienced last week and what fans in Columbia, South Carolina had gotten two weeks before – Spider-man versus Monster Energy.
Both drivers were quick to pull from the line and Spider-man edged Monster Energy for his fifth racing championship and 20th arena racing win of the season.
Donuts were presented after intermission and the round was not without incident. Predator suffered a mechanical failure and had to be towed from the floor and War Wizard was still dealing with the wheel issues. Monster Energy took the lead and held on until the nemesis Spider-man stepped out to claim a 25 and the win.
A Spider-man win in the Fox Sports 1 freestyle would give Spider-man the chance to double down in Florence to join El Toro Loco’s feat of the previous night. The competition was tight as Monster Energy and Predator tied for the top spot until Spider-man broke the tie to take the lead. The double down teetered on the performance of one remaining truck, but El Toro Loco ended up one point short, giving driver Bari Musawwir his first double down of the year.
Team North Carolina dominated for the Quad Wars championship.

Saturday 7 p.m.

The fans in Florence saw the reason why Monster Jam was put onto the 2014 schedule at the Florence Civic Center. The crowd came out in full for the final show of the weekend and the drivers knew there was a lot of pressure to get the fans on their feet for the excitement.
Wheelies opened the competition, but the drama built almost immediately. As Spider-man hit the first stack, there was an apparent problem with the left front axle and the truck was not able to take part in the second wheelie. The single wheelie score of 18 stood up through challenges, only to be toppled by Monster Energy’s 21. Predator came close to sawing off the top spot, falling two points short. El Toro Loco powered to the line and put up two wheelies that made the judges think. When it was all said and done, no one could take down Monster Energy with El Toro Loco falling a point short. The wheelie win was the first for driver Coty Saucier.
The Spider-man crew, with help from competitor crew members, worked on the axle and prepared the truck in time for racing. Spider-man took the momentum and picked up a win in a round that saw a few close finishes. Spider-man’s next obstacle was Monster Energy as a rematch of the Saturday afternoon final was on the line. Spider-man emphasized the desire to score a win and knocked off the hard rushing Blue Thunder for the second racing victory of the day.
In donut competition, Monster Energy appeared to be the class of the field until El Toro Loco came charging out to grab the lead by a single point. Spider-man’s effort ran a little shorter, making the judges’ decision a bit easier and setting the stage for the third different winner in as many elements.
The Monster Jam Fox Sports 1 Freestyle wrapped up the program as three drivers stood in position to gain a second win on the day and one of those was Spider-man seeking the coveted double down. War Wizard thrilled the crowd with a stout wheelie that put the truck near the barrier with a broken transmission. Monster Energy pushed the score to 24 and Blue Thunder was one spot better, thanks in part to the backwards pass over the van stack. The score was a formidable obstacle for Spider-man’s double down hopes as the truck ended up with a 23 for the record. The final truck to the track set the result as El Toro Loco powered to a 26 and the second freestyle win of the weekend.
Team South Carolina got back to their winning ways with victory in Quad Wars and yet another car met its demise at the claws and jaws of Megasaurus.
