Friday night

The road to the Monster Jam World Finals XV rolled on here in Albuquerque, NM and the first show of the weekend was crazy good. All eight superstar Monster Jam Drivers laid it out and held nothing back, much to the appreciation of the great crowd on hand.

Wheelies got the evening going and Dawn Creten in Scarlet Bandit tipped her beautifully colored Monster Jam Truck up nicely for the opening score of 20. Mark Schroeder stepped out next and posted a 16 followed by Rod Wood and McGruff with a 14. Thing heated up from there with George Balhan and Mohawk Warrior pushing the score to beat up to 22. Bounty Hunter turned in a 19 with Jim Creten at the wheel which brought fan favorite JP and El Diablo to the floor for his turn. El Diablo’s first hit was less than stellar but on his second wheelie he literal put his Monster Jam Truck on end for a well-earned 26. Monster Mutt Rottweiler popped two nice wheelies as did Son Uva Digger and Ryan Anderson but both had to settle for a 21 giving JP and El Diablo the win.

In the Monster Jam Racing bracket Son Uva Digger was set to matchup with McGruff, but the crime dog had a mechanical issue and couldn’t make the line which gave Ryan Anderson a free pass on the Chicago style track to advance to the semi-finals. Bounty Hunter was able to knock off wheelie winner El Diablo to advance and Mohawk Warrior defeated Devastator to move on. Monster Mutt Rottweiler got off the line clean and advanced against Scarlet Bandit. The semi-finals featured two great pairings with Monster Mutt Rottweiler coming from behind to send Mohawk Warrior packing. The bottom half of the bracket featured two of the top three winningest drivers this season in Son Uva Digger and Bounty Hunter. Bounty looked to have the lead going into the far turn but he caught a hard edge and had to come out of the throttle which allowed the hard driving Ryan Anderson to put Son Uva Digger over the finish line first. It was a runaway in the championship race with Son Uva Digger getting away cleanly on the green to take the first racing win of the weekend.

Devastator led things off in the Fox Sports 1 Freestyle and drove strong enough to garner an 18 from the judges. Scarlet Bandit put together a solid 60 seconds as well and moved the number to beat up to 19. McGruff continued to battle gremlins and had to settle for a 14. El Diablo busted out of the pit area and drove like he was angry, even hitting a small tail whip off the far jump to move into the lead with a 24. That number stood for three Monster Jam runs with Mohawk Warrior, Bounty Hunter and Monster Mutt Rottweiler all coming up a little short with scores of 22, 21 and 22 respectively. The last man in the paddock was Ryan Anderson and he brought Son Uva Digger to the floor in a hurry, nailing every obstacle from all sides and going big on one of the racing hills to complete the Double Down with a score of 27.

Tonight’s show was incredible and we expect the action to get even better with the stellar lineup that is here in Albuquerque, NM at the Tingley Coliseum. If you haven’t already done so go to MonsterJam.com and get tickets for tomorrows show and join us for the pit party starting at 5pm on Saturday.

Saturday Night

The Monster Jam faithful came out in droves for the Saturday night show at Tingley Coliseum and as we were wrapping an awesome show we found out the building sold completely out. Being on the floor with the drivers and hearing how loud the crowd was it was obvious but it is always great to hear things like, “We can’t remember the last time we had this many people at an event.” That just goes to show that Monster Jam brings the biggest party to town.

That party kicked off tonight with the wheelies competition and Dawn Creten in Scarlet Bandit set the bar high right out of the gate with her 21. Devastator and Mark Schroeder posted a 14 next and Rod Wood in McGuff got his dog an 18. George Balhan and Mohawk Warrior put together two nice hits for a total of 19, but Bounty Hunter went big and Jimmy Creten set the new mark to beat at 24. That didn’t hold long as the next Monster Jam Truck out of the gate was El Diablo and JP threw down one of his signature sky wheelies for a 27. Monster Mutt Rottweiler driven by Rod Schmidt scored a 22 and that left only Son Uva Digger and Ryan Anderson in the pits. Ryan came to the first hill and throttled up his Son Uva Digger Monster Jam truck and literally set it on the tailgate and dragged it across the entire table top for the best wheelie of the night and possibly a contender for wheelie of the year. He was the clear winner with his 29.

Racing started off with the wheelie winner Son Uva Digger facing off against Devastator with Son Uva Digger getting the win. Scarlet Bandit took El Diablo to task next with Dawn Creten getting the win to advance to the semi-finals. In the bottom half of the bracket Bounty Hunter knocked off Mohawk Warrior and Monster Mutt Rottweiler fended off the other canine McGruff. In the first semi-final race Son Uva Digger got out very quickly and never looked back winning by two Monster Jam truck lengths. Bounty Hunter continued to look strong beating Monster Mutt Rottweiler. In the championship round Bounty Hunter got off the line better and looked good going into the final turn but he hooked up a little too well around the crush car which changed up his line and allowed Son Uva Digger to come from behind and take the win.

The first Monster Jam truck out for Fox Sports 1 Freestyle was Devastator and he ran well to net an 18. Scarlet Bandit didn’t let that score stand for long, filling the 60 second clock and bettering the score to beat by two with a 20. McGruff didn’t do quite enough to move into the top spot scoring a 16. After narrowly losing the wheelies contest El Diablo came out hard in the Fox Sports 1 Freestyle and the combination of his big air and a nice cross thread put him in the lead with a 22. Mohawk Warrior ran right on the ragged edge and just as the clock reached zero he went over on his top which thrilled the crowd and the judges agree moving him into the top spot with a 23. Monster Mutt Rottweiler chased his bone out of the pen and went wire to wire to move the needle just a bit higher to 24. That left only Son Uva Digger, who was seeking his second Double Down of the weekend. Ryan Anderson brought his Monster Jam Truck to the floor and hit a massive air right out of the gate. His Son Uva Digger truck looked like it launched off the big hill but in fact he had used the racing lane which made it even more impressive. He kept up his high flying action throughout his run and did enough to score a 25 and take his second Double Down of the weekend.

If you are in the Albuquerque area you should definitely go to MonsterJam.com and get tickets for tomorrows show and join us as Ryan Anderson and Son Uva Digger goes after a third Double Down.

Sunday afternoon

The final show of the weekend at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, NM had one Monster Jam Driver chasing the elusive “triple Double Down” as he put it during his interview after wheelies. That Monster Jam Superstar was Ryan Anderson in Son Uva Digger and he was looking to sweep the weekend in both Monster Jam Racing and Fox Sports 1 Freestyle. The crowd was clued in to his difficult task and many of them were definitely hoping to see a little history made in The Land of Enchantment today.

As we have all weekend we started things off with wheelies and the first lady of Monster Jam Dawn Creten in Scarlet Bandit tipped her Monster Jam Truck up nicely for a 20. Mark Schroeder in Devastator finally got the wheelie he was looking for and pushed the score to beat up to 23. Rod Wood in McGruff went vertical for a 16 and George Balhan in Mohawk Warrior came in with a 17. Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter took the floor next but his 19 was not enough to take the lead. One of the best rear wheel standers in the business rolled out next and JP went to work in El Diablo. His first hit was, in his words, “a little weak”, but he made up for it with a massive air on jump number two to move the number to 27. Rod Schmidt in Monster Mutt Rottweiler made a game effort nailing a very nice wheelie but he came up two numbers short at 25. Ryan Anderson brought out Son Uva Digger and performed well but his 23 wasn’t enough to take the victory from El Diablo.

We had a bonus competition in today’s show and that was the Monster Jam Maniac Challenge where each Monster Jam Truck came to the floor individually and ran the front straight away circled a car and continued over the other start jump to the finish line with the lowest time getting the win. There were several very fast times with Mohawk Warrior and Bounty Hunter both going under 17 seconds and Monster Mutt Rottweiler sliding in under 16, but Son Uva Digger was the clear winner with his 15.15.

Following quad wars it was time to find out if Ryan Anderson and Son Uva Digger could continue his undefeated streak at the Tingley Coliseum. He went heads up with McGruff in the first round and Son Uva Digger took the win. In the second race Scarlet Bandit got the better of El Diablo. Race 3 pitted Mohawk Warrior against Devastator and the spikey haired one came out on top. The final pairing was Monster Mutt Rottweiler against Bounty Hunter and the big canine took the win. In the first semi-final race Son Uva Digger comfortably advanced against Scarlet Bandit. The bottom half of the bracket was much closer with Mohawk Warrior narrowly crossing the line ahead of Monster Mutt Rottweiler. That set up a phenomenal match in our championship race between Mohawk Warrior and Son Uva Digger. Both Monster Jam Trucks cut a great light and going into the first corner of the Chicago style track it was either driver’s race. When they squared up around the final turn both Monster Jam Trucks were out of shape, but Mohawk Warrior managed to get a better push and crossed the finish line for the victory.

That took us to the Fox Sports 1 Freestyle and Devastator started us off with a 19. Scarlet Bandit nudged the score to beat up to 20 and McGuff had to settle for an 18. The fireworks really began with El Diablo’s run with him hitting the big FMX landing ramp from both directions to post a 24. Mohawk Warrior came to the floor looking for his own Double Down, but after a great 60 second run he came up just a bit shy at 23. Bounty Hunter ran solid for his 60 but his total of 22 wasn’t enough. Monster Mutt Rottweiler chased his bone out of the pits and went for the full pull but was also not up to the task scoring a 22. Son Uva Digger came to the floor looking for a little pay back after his narrow loss in racing and he launched his Monster Jam Truck off every obstacle and came to rest on the top of the big jump leaving no doubt he took top honors with his 28.

It was certainly an awesome weekend of Monster Jam here in Albuquerque, NM and week look forward to coming back next year. Don’t forget Monster Jam World Finals XV is only a month away and there are still a few tickets left for the biggest show of the year.
