Friday 7:30 p.m.

It takes more than a few raindrops to keep dedicated Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam fans away from Speedway 95 when the word is out that the show is in town. Weather forecasters did their best to dampen the enthusiasm, but the crowd would have none of it as they gathered for the return of the show to Bangor, Maine.
A field of six Monster Jam trucks would be joined by a dozen Street Warriors and some fierce Quad Wars racing to provide a well rounded program. The Friday show was the start of a weekend that will see Saturday and Sunday action adding opportunities for those who missed Friday night.
The action started with wheelie competition and it was clear that no one would let the opportunity to win pass them by. Everyone posted a score higher than 20, but none would be greater than the 26 that would be scored for Jon Zimmer and Batman. In just his second week in the truck, Zimmer laid claim to the win, marking a return to Bangor, where he had been both a crewmember and a driver for previous shows. His last opportunity behind the came in 2011 and he made this one count.
Zimmer’s effort to add to his laurels ran into a tough road as he would be in the first heat of the first round of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam racing. His opponent was Randy Brown in Grave Digger, back for the first time since dominating the action throughout the 2008-2010 seasons. Grave Digger nipped Batman to move on to the semi-finals. Captain’s Curse got the best of sub driver Dan Evans in Northern Nightmare and Crushstation cruised to a popular victory over Hurricane Force, which experienced driveline issues and was done for the night.
The news was better for Batman, who earned the right to return through the fast loser provisional, but it set up a rematch with Grave Digger. The result turned out to be the same as Grave Digger claimed another narrow victory. Crushstation advanced at the expense of Captain’s Curse as the rain started to pick up. The drivers were called to the line for the UTI Championship Round, which would pit Grave Digger against Crushstation. Either outcome would be a popular win and the trucks thundered from the starting line even. At the end, Crushstation edged the pinchers ahead of Grave Digger to claim a racing title, which will help his bid for a return to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam World finals March 20-22, 2014.
After a brief intermission, the Monster Jam trucks were soon on course for the Advance Auto Parts Service is Our Best Part freestyle. Batman opened with a solid 23 to grab the early lead. Crushstation went one better and moved the bar to 24 in a bid to secure the Double Down. Those hopes were dashed when Captain’s Curse put a long walking wheelie off the van stack to start the 60 seconds and just got better from there. It earned a 25 from the judges, which was good enough to secure the win.
Chris Weymouth put consistent 27-second runs together in the final two rounds to claim the Street Warriors opener. Team Maine rallied back after Team New York won the first heat, gaining the second heat and main event win in Quad Wars.

Saturday 2 p.m.

The second show in the quartet of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam® action set for Bangor was held under rainy skies, but no one paid much attention to the weather once the action started. A good crowd donned slickers and boots and traipsed onto the track during the Party in the Pits preceding the event. Drivers signed autographs under a tent while the fans seized photo opportunities.
The action opened with donuts contested on the front stretch asphalt. A tough start for Hurricane Force saw the truck stopping after a single revolution with front damage. Northern Nightmare spun into the infield, but kept going and ended up with a solid 25 to show for it. The score stood through the challenges of the remaining competitors until Randy Brown hustled Grave Digger from the pit area. He launched into a series of cyclones that were impressive until the truck came to a sudden stop. The score was good enough to gain the win, but the damage to the engine would eliminate the truck from any further action. The crew wasted no time in working to replace the engine for upcoming events, working through the afternoon.
With five trucks, a bye run was set up and Northern Nightmare gained that distinction. In first round competition, Captain’s Curse nipped Crushstation and Batman flew past a repaired Hurricane Force. Crushstation earned the opportunity to return and ended up with Northern Nightmare at the starting line. A good start was all Dan Evans needed to bring the Maple Leaf Monster Jam Tour regular machine to victory. Alex Blackwell added a win in the remaining semi-final. In the UTI Championship Round, Captain’s Curse met up with Northern Nightmare and it was Captain’s Curse taking the big win.
The Advance Auto Parts Service is Our Best Part freestyle opened with Hurricane Force closing off the run with a broken sway bar arm, but a solid 19 for the effort. Batman grabbed the lead with a 22, only to have Crushstation roll three 8s to a 24, helped by a solid start that include a high flying leap that transcended to a slap wheelie. Captain’s Curse, in the bid to double down, came up a couple of points short to give the win to the home state hero.
Team Maine had reason to celebrate with their win in Quad Wars. Don Cianci put his best round of the day as his final and that earned him the win in Street Warriors.

Saturday 7:30 p.m.

The excitement just keeps building with each show during the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam® stop in Bangor, Maine. Young and old alike were treated to the top talent in yet another spectacular display of ultra close competition.
Wheelie action opened the program with the five trucks that presented for introductions. Hurricane Force posted a very solid 20 as the result of two hits on the cars. His best was bettered by a single point through work of Batman. It didn’t take long for that mark to go down when Captain’s Curse put together what proved to be a winning effort, thanks to a score of 23.
With the win in the wheelie competition, Captain’s Curse would have the number one seed and in a five-truck field, that means a bye run. Just before the competition was to begin, tech officials completed their inspection of a sixth truck and cleared it for competition. The engine swap which had started in the afternoon was completed and Randy Brown brought Grave Digger directly to the starting line before a cheering crowd. The momentum of the work and support of the crowd propelled Grave Digger to a first round win. Crushstation topped Hurricane Force to move on while Batman beat Northern Nightmare by inches for a win. Northern Nightmare picked up the fast loser provisional to earn a second chance.
Previous fast loser provisional haven’t had great success this weekend, but Dan Evans reversed the trend, winning his semi-final pairing over Grave Digger. Batman would find himself ahead of Crushstation to move on. The UTI Championship pitted two wily competitors and showcased yet another close finish with Batman coming away with the win. Happy with his win, driver Jon Zimmer promised there would be more excitement to come with freestyle.
The Advance Auto Parts Service is Our Best Part freestyle was the last chance for anyone seeking victory on a Saturday night. Hurricane Force started strong for the early lead, but Zimmer wanted the double down and showed it. His solid run withstood challenge after challenge. Randy Brown brought Grave Digger for a final shot. His run through the 60 seconds and beyond thrilled the fans but couldn’t convince the judges that it was enough for this night. Randy took the time after the run to thank all of the fans for their support as he recalled the day and the efforts and expressed his appreciation to those came out to witness the event. Double down winner Jon Zimmer credited the Grave Digger for their effort and said the momentum for the win will carry through to the final round of competition on Sunday.
Corey Weymouth picked up the Street Warrior win when challenger Larry Laney clipped a tire for a five-second penalty in the final round. Team Maine continued the dominance of Quad Wars, taking yet another main event victory from Team New York.

Sunday 2 p.m.

Sunshine greeted the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam® fans on a Sunday afternoon, who settled in for the finale of the series appearance in Bangor, Maine. The wet weather that had plagued previous show still showed up in slight amounts, but did nothing to slow the action.
Hurricane Force again held the honor of starting off the wheelie competition. An opening 24 was a strong showing, one that was good enough to hold off all challengers and earn Steven Thompson his first element win of the weekend. It was a fitting reward for the team efforts that kept the truck in competition despite a few setbacks.
Hurricane Force would earn top spot in the racing bracket, only to face Saturday night double down winner Batman. The two were locked in a close race as Batman escaped elimination by inches. Grave Digger sidelined Northern Nightmare and Crushstation took out Captain’s Curse. Northern Nightmare would earn fast loser provisional and fall victim in the semi-finals to Batman. Crushstation got the hole shot to pull out a win over Grave Digger. The UTI Championship Round would pit Friday winner Crushstation against Saturday winner Batman to see who would add to their resume. At the finish line, Batman backed up his win from the day before in the closest race of the weekend.
There would be no reason to hold back when it came down to the Advance Auto Parts Service is Our Best Part freestyle. That message was loud and clear throughout the pit area. Captain’s Curse opened the action with a solid 23 which stood until Batman showed the desire to double down again. The Batman freestyle drew a 25 and the new lead. The time atop the standings was short lived with the next competitor earning the number one position. Crushstation used high flying action and crowd pleasing wheelies to claim a 27. Grave Digger marched to the track and pursued an assault on the course. Fighting apparent electrical gremlins that cut off power, Randy Brown soldiered through the 60 seconds and kept running to the delight of the crowd. Though the score only a 24, the effort showed new fans that the commitment to ultimate entertainment is the point behind Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam. Crushstation picked up the coveted winner’s plaque and followed the earlier winners lead in giving the plaque and a Hot Wheels toy to the fans.
Corey Weymouth became a two-time winner in Street Warriors competition. Team New York scored two heat wins and then employed questionable tactics in capturing the main. Team Maine protested the outcome, which set up a captain’s challenge and the outcome was reversed with Maine taking the special match.
