ADVANCE AUTO PARTS MONSTER JAM WORLD FINALS XIV PRESENTED BY NGK SPARK PLUGS

Adam Anderson and Tom Meents each made history at Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals XIV presented by NGK Spark Plugs Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. Anderson powered Grave Digger the Legend to his first World Racing Championship, becoming just the fourth driver to own both a World Racing Championship and a World Freestyle Championship, then Meents extended his all-time record of world titles to 11 by rocking the sold-out stadium in Max-D to take the 2013 World Freestyle Championship. Meents then was joined by teammates Neil Elliott, Kreg Christensen, and Chuck Werner as the crowd ended the night on its feet yet again, cheering a spectacular Monster Jam World Finals encore featuring four back flipping Max-D Monster Jam trucks in one of the most memorable moments in the sport’s history.

Friday night during the Double Down festivities Max-D took the Double Down trophy as the fastest qualifier, extending another Meents record with Tom’s fifth top qualification time at the sport’s greatest event, knocking Lee O’Donnell and Iron Man out of the number one seed on the final qualifying pass of the night, while Joe Sylvester earned the final berth in the Monster Jam World Finals field when he drove Bad Habit to the Young Guns Shootout Championship.

Moving to Saturday night’s largest ever race bracket with 28 trucks competing, Double-A marched through a loaded top half of the ladders by beating two of the teams that came to Vegas listed on the short list of pre-event racing favorites: Damon Bradshaw in Monster Energy, and Max-D, along with wins over George Balhan in Mohawk Warrior and Pablo Huffaker in Blue Thunder that catapulted Adam into the World Championship Race for the first time in his career. In the finale Grave Digger the Legend outraced Marc McDonald in El Toro Loco who also earned a berth in the final round at the Monster Jam World Finals for the first time.

With the victory Adam Anderson joins an exclusive club of drivers who have won both a racing and a freestyle world title. The other names on that list are Meents, Dennis Anderson, and Madusa.

The incredible freestyle competition had some early high flying performances as Jon Zimmer in Superman, who performed third in the freestyle order, and Pablo Huffaker in Blue Thunder who hit the track 7th turned in rocking runs that saw them both stay near the top of the leader board all night, Blue Thunder finishing the night in the runner-up spot and Superman eventually ended the competition in 3rd place. It was Meents and Max-D that overcame the disappointment of seeing his quest for a third straight World Racing Championship ended earlier by the loss to Grave Digger the Legend as Meents earning world crown number 11 with a performance fitting for Max-D’s tenth anniversary, the high flying save filled run ending the night a clear cut winner on the judges’ scorecards.
