Saturday 7:00 p.m. – While both Dennis and Ryan Anderson saw their streaks of winning stadium Double Down trophies come to an end each Anderson still extended winning streaks in Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam action Saturday night as Ryan powered Son-uva Digger to a third consecutive stadium racing championship while Dennis and Grave Digger took home the freestyle trophy for a third straight week in front of a crowd in excess of 72,000 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.
The night started out rough for Grave Digger with mechanical problems in introductions that kept Dennis from being able to continue his recent racing success. The Grave Digger crew would replace the fuel pump on the truck in time for freestyle but not soon enough to make it into the racing bracket. Son-uva Digger posted the fastest qualifying time and Ryan backed that up by marching through the 16 truck field, defeating Marc McDonald and El Toro Loco in the UTI Championship Round Race, the 3rd time that Son-uva Digger and El Toro Loco have squared off in the finals and each time Son-uva Digger has claimed the trophy in those stadium races. Ryan Anderson remains perfect in stadium racing this year, now boasting a record of 12 and 0 in rounds of racing during 2013 stadium Advance Auto Parts Monster Jams.
Freestyle began with the sold out crowd roaring and at the half way point of the competition rookie Dustin Brown had just moved into the lead, Wolverine’s high flying freestyle scoring a 22, but then torrential rains quickly began. After a 45 minute weather delay the Service is Our Best Part Freestyle competition resumed, but the track had been changed to extremely muddy with puddles of water covering the surface. The remaining trucks attacked the muddy course with a vengeance to the delight of the tens of thousands who waited out the weather delay. El Toro Loco and Son-uva Digger were tied for the top spot until Grave Digger thrilled the Florida crowd with an incredible freestyle, making the wait through the weather worth the it for those supportive fans and Dennis Anderson celebrated his Grave Digger’s third straight stadium freestyle triumph.
