Friday night

Friday 7:30 p.m. – The biggest names in Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam led the way on the sport’s return to one of its most popular and busiest annual venues, the All State Arena just down the street from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, with Neil Elliott celebrating Max-D’s 10th Anniversary by winning both the wheelie and freestyle competitions, while Charlie Pauken powered Grave Digger to the racing championship in front of a sold out crowd that welcomed the first of five events scheduled for this weekend in Chicagoland.

Despite the cold outside the venue the crowd was hot from the beginning of the action which started with the exciting wheelie competition. Both Elliott in Max-D and Frank Krmel in the Advance Auto Parts Grinder earned scores of 25 from the three judges doing the official scoring, with Max-D getting the win thanks to the scoring of the tie-breaker judge.

Oval track racing in Monster Jam was created in the Windy City, thus the name Chicago style race track which was again the circuit for the racing competition here and with a stacked line-up of superstars going all out, the fans were treated to great action and a series of photo finishes. The UTI Championship Race matched Grave Digger and Advance Auto Parts Grinder and appropriately the pair crossed the finish line at virtually the same time with Grave Digger earning the final round win by a margin of about six inches.

In the Service is our Best Part Freestyle Competition it was Joe Sylvester, still celebrating the news from earlier in the week that his Bad Habit has been invited to the Young Guns Shootout at the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals XIV presented by NGK Spark Plugs in Las Vegas who set the early pace, but a high air assault by Scott Beutow in the Team Hot Wheels Firestorm would roar into the lead. Still, it came down to the two legendary names battling to settle the final win of the night and again it was a razor thin margin with Max-D earning one point more than Grave Digger to cap off the first of the five events back in the Chicago area this weekend at the arena in Rosemont.

Saturday 2:00 p.m.

Saturday 2:00 p.m. – Charlie Pauken drove Grave Digger to an All State Arena Double Down, powering Grave Digger to both the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam racing and freestyle championships after Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter gave the fans in attendance a real Wow moment to take the wheelie contest in front of the second straight sold out crowd at the suburban Chicago venue.

The very first truck to take to the floor in competition was Bounty Hunter and Migues left the fans with one of the afternoon’s most memorable moments. Hitting a picture perfect sky wheelie, Bounty Hunter landed on the crushed cars firmly on the tailgate with the truck frozen there, the nose of the Monster Jam truck pointed toward the arena roof to the delight of the excited crowd, and despite nine other superstars following no one could top Bounty Hunter’s moment, nor the score from the judges as Migues grabbed his first trophy of the weekend.

The rest of the afternoon was colored black and green, dominated by Grave Digger. Pauken survived a photo finish semifinal against Neil Elliott and the 10th Anniversary Max-D in the semifinals before holding off Frank Krmel and the Advance Auto Parts Grinder in another close UTI Championship Round race to bring the afternoon racing title to the Grave Digger camp.

Max-D put on a high flying freestyle to take the Service is our Best Part Freestyle lead until Grave Digger returned to the floor and Pauken was able to find a little extra, turning in a high flying Digger freestyle that included a huge leap in reverse as Grave Digger continued to have the upper hand against the star-studded line-up battling through the five events scheduled for All State Arena over the course of the weekend.

Saturday 7:30 p.m.

Saturday 7:30 p.m. – The third straight sold out crowd at the All State Arena was roaring all night, enjoying a thrill packed Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam event that saw Neil Elliott and Max-D win the wheelie contest, Frank Krmel grabbing his first trophy of the weekend as Advance Auto Parts Grinder won racing, and ended with a standing ovation after a sensational Grave Digger freestyle saw Charlie Pauken claim the win in the night’s final competition.

After Max-D scored a narrow victory over Joe Miller’s Iron Outlaw and Scott Buetow’s Team Hot Wheels Firestorm to win the wheelie contest Elliott provided wild thrills in racing as well. After losing in the race bracket Friday night and Saturday afternoon to Advance Auto Parts Grinder Elliott was determined to change that trend but when Max-D squared off against Grinder in the Championship Round Saturday night Elliott tried to push Max-D even harder and the 10th Anniversary Max-D flipped over onto its roof in the final turn as Krmel drove “The People’s Truck” into the final round for the third straight event. This time it was a winning effort as Advance Auto Parts Grinder knocked off Sean Duhon and Zombie in yet another close racing finish on the Chicago style oval race course.

Freestyle was full of highlights, most notably a wicked series of breath taking huge air leaps and a pair of crowd pleasing saves by Team Hot Wheels Firestorm, and Buetow’s awesome run would be good enough for second place, just not the win because of an amazing Grave Digger performance. Pauken kept the crowd screaming in delight from start to finish, continuing to pull off huge moves long after the clock had expired and the judges scores were in, the night ending with another victorious “Chuckie Dance” in celebration of Grave Digger’s freestyle triumph.

Sunday 2:00 p.m.

Sunday 2:00 p.m. – What had been a really good weekend in Chicagoland for Charlie Pauken and Grave Digger became a really great weekend Sunday afternoon when Grave Digger swept all three Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam competitions in front of the fourth straight sold out crowd to pack into the All State Arena.

Pauken got the crowd fired up right from the start when Grave Digger claimed the wheelie contest win for the first time this weekend in the Chicago area.

Racing saw Grave Digger and Advance Auto Parts Grinder work through the racing bracket to meet in the UTI Championship Race for the third time this weekend, and Pauken muscled Grave Digger home the racing champion, beating Frank Krmel and Grinder by the length of wheel in the finale.

Digger took the momentum out of the race bracket into freestyle where for the second straight time here in his hometown, Chicago native Scott Buetow rocked the house with his Team Hot Wheels Firestorm freestyle, flying around the building in an awesome display of big air, the run ending with a huge crash that had the crowd roaring and saw Hot Wheels move into the top spot, where Beutow’s truck would stay until Pauken and Grave Digger came onto the floor and thrilled the crowd with a performance that is likely to be nominated for the 2013 Arena Freestyle of the Year Award. Grave Digger’s incredible, crowd pleasing run earned a near perfect score of 29 carrying Grave Digger to the clean sweep of the Sunday afternoon Monster Jam competitions.

Sunday 7:30 p.m.

Sunday 7:30 p.m. – The math is pretty simple: five Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam events at the All State Arena in Rosemont, Illinois equaled five sold out crowds at the popular Chicago area venue. Sunday night’s final packed house, featuring arguably the loudest fans of the entire busy weekend saw Charlie Pauken and Grave Digger Double Down with wins in racing and freestyle and Joe Sylvester taking Bad Habit to the win in the wheelie contest.

Capping off a week that was highlighted by the thrill and honor of Bad Habit being invited to the Young Guns Shootout at the Double Down festivities during the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals XIV presented by NGK Spark Plugs next month in Las Vegas, Sylvester was the first to compete in the Sunday night wheelie contest. Bad Habit got completely vertical with a pair of crowd pleasing sky wheelies and held off the other nine superstars that followed for Bad Habit’s first win of the weekend in Rosemont.

In racing Pauken and Frank Krmel in Advance Auto Parts Grinder would meet in the UTI Championship Race for the fourth time in three days, and Grave Digger won all of those meetings, this time by a truck length at the finish line.

Once again Scott Buetow and Team Hot Wheels Firestorm set the early pace in freestyle, but Neil Elliott and Max-D moved to the front with a wild performance that would end up the night in the runner-up spot on the judge’s scorecards. That was because Pauken again delivered the thrills to the huge, rocking crowd, and Grave Digger closed the weekend with the fans on their feet cheering another Digger freestyle victory.
