Friday night

Within the shadows of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam brought high flying excitement into the Wright State University's Nutter Center again this evening. The always fantastic Dayton Monster Jam fans were treated to an action packed Thunder Nationals filled with plenty of tight competition as well as some surprises. Monster Jam Wheelie competition began slowly as the first three Monster Jam trucks failed to eclipse the decade mark followed by Illuminator missing the call. Diehl Wilson and Virginia Giant posted a score of 17 and finally, Mr. Excitement, Jim Koehler and broke out a sky wheelie fit to please the judges coming home with the first championship plaque of the night.

UTI Racing brought some surprises throughout each round. Avenger continued his winning ways as he paired up with Illuminator who charged back after failing to run in Wheelies. Veterans Virginia Giant and Full Boar made their presences felt both advancing to the semis. Full Boar defeated Virginia Giant and Avenger won easily against Illuminator but something was amiss on the front end. The 2 minute clock began and as time expired Avenger was unable to answer the bell. Ed Eckert and Full Boar takes home his second UTI Championship Racing plaque of the year and was ready for Monster Jam Doughnuts.

Monster Jam Donuts started with the second run of the night posting the score to beat. Illuminator's 21 stood until Full Boar and Virginia Giant both posted 25's with one Monster Jam Truck remaining. Team Scream's Jim Koehler was able to repair the ailing front end on Avenger and the name suited the result. Avenger came away with a perfect score of 30 after completing a cyclone that Dayton won't soon forget.

Monster Jam Freestyle, much like Racing saw a surprise or two before everything was said and done. Most of the opening scores failed to impress the judges but Virginia Giant came out to show some Thunder Nationals muscle. Posting a score of 26, no other competitor could match the score to beat and then it all came down to Avenger. Trying to sweep three of the four Monster Jam competitions Avenger came out strong attacking the stacks like a truck on a mission. Nearing the completion of the run Avenger rolled and was unable to recover. Diehl Wilson and Virginia Giant claims his first Monster Jam Freestyle win of the year.

Saturday 2PM

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam drivers awoke on Saturday to a very cold and snowy Dayton landscape. The Wright State University's Nutter Center track proved to be a challenge as the stars of Monster Jam returned for day two of the Thunder Nationals. The packed house was treated to a Wheelie Competition that again began slowly until Aftershock set a score of 21 to give the final three competitors something to shoot for. Team Scream's Steve Koehler proved to be the class of the field beating his brother by a mere point in the penultimate run.

UTI Racing brought even more surprises and the Monster Jam fans were treated to a special day. As each round unfolded a three time Thunder Nationals champ began to show his final appearance in Dayton would not be forgotten. Aftershock was paired against Virginia Giant in the UTI Championship Race. On the final turn Aftershock broke loose and Diehl Wilson in Virginia Giant added to his Thunder Nationals lore with the victory.

Monster Jam Donuts saw some pretty good scores early on as Hotsy cut loose with a cyclone that earned him a combined score of 25. That score would not be topped until a very confident Diehl Wilson in Virginia Giant made his way onto the Wright State University Nutter Center floor. It was as if each revolution peeled back the years and Virginia Giant would reign supreme again. Diehl was at a loss for words and thanked the Dayton fans for their support of Virginia Giant. They, in turn, responded accordingly.

Monster Jam Freestyle had the makings of something very special. It soon became evident that this was indeed the case. Fullboar had problems with the front end and was unable to make his run. It wasn't until, you guessed it, Virginia Giant came out that Monster Jam fans were treated to an inspired 60 seconds. As the scores were revealed the mark set was 25. Only Avenger would come close. His score found him one point shy of knocking the Service Is Our Best Part Freestyle Champion and Double Down winner off his throne. In his closing interview Diehl Wilson in Virginia Giant summed up the afternoon with one word...wow. Wow indeed.

Saturday 7:30PM

The Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam fans once again packed the Wright State University Nutter Center for a thrilling night of Thunder Nationals. Coming off a Double Down earlier in the day, Virginia Giant was the target as the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition began. Traction was at a minimum as the scores slowly built. Perhaps being a three time Thunder Nationals champ made the difference. Diehl Wilson brought Virginia Giant back home as a Wheelie winner. And so the night began...

UTI Racing was as competitive as it gets in the Monster Jam ranks. Each race was close and the semis bore the fresh face of Aaron Cromer and Krazy Train. The tracks to get to the finals meant defeating the boss Bob Robbins and Illuminator. With the horn blaring, Krazy Train won by a truck length. The only obstruction left for the UTI Championship plaque was Virginia Giant. The race was close from the start. Krazy Train trailed by half a truck into the final turn. Both trucks scrambled over the final stack and crossed the Advance Auto Parts Finish Line sideways. It took nearly two minutes before Diehl Wilson and Virginia Giant was declared the winner. Disappointed, Aaron Cromer graciously came over to congratulate Wilson in a classy move.

The Dayton snow was stirred up by a break out of Cyclones to start out the second half of Monster Jam. Illuminator, Virginia Giant and Avenger were all able to impress the judges but Mike Miller and Hotsy surprised the ecstatic crowd. Hotsy hooked up the horsepower and wowed the fans with the best donuts of the Championship Round. It wasn't a perfect score but for Mike Miller a perfect end to a frustrating weekend.

For Service Is Our Best Part Monster Jam Freestyle Illuminator set the mark in just the second run with a score of 21. Sadly for Viginia Giant, a broken transmission brought his dream Thunder Nationals to an end. It looked as if Illuminator was about to lock up the Freestyle crown until two time world Freestyle Champ Jim Koehler and Avenger took to the Wright State University Nutter Center floor for his final run. In classic Avenger fashion Jim Koehler brought the house down breaking his streak of bad luck, igniting the jubilant Dayton crowd one last time. YEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
