Friday night

The weather outside was in the frigid “teens,” but an awesome “heat” was being felt inside the Charleston Civic Center tonight for Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam.

Starting with the McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest, it was Greg Winchenbach & his Crushstation “lobster” Monster Jam truck continuing their 2013 domination of this element of competition. Tonight was no different as they scored a near perfect 30 but came up just shy in taking another wheelie win.

McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest Results:
Bad News – 7/9/9 = 25
Samson – 6/6/6 = 18
Instigator – 6/5/6 = 17
Superman – 8/8/8 = 24
Higher Education – 8/8/8 = 24
Grave Digger – 9/7/8 = 24
Crushstation – 9/10/9 = 28

The Monster Jam Racing came up next and it was our version of “The Fast & Furious.” We blew through the brackets so fast but almost no one caught onto the fact that it was Allison Patrick & Samson going up against Joey Parnell & Superman in the UTI Finals. It was Parnell with a better light and slightly tighter turns that helped him take the racing championship.

UTI Monster Jam Racing Championship:
Round 1:
Samson – bye run
Grave Digger defeated Instigator
Crushstation defeated Bad News
Superman defeated Higher Education
Round 2:
Samson defeated Grave Digger
Crushstation defeated Superman
Championship Finals:
Superman defeated Samson

Monster Jam Freestyle was to end the night’s battle on the track and with every truck but 1 scoring in the 20s, it was a battle for sure. Along with the eventual win in freestyle, we were also able to crown the first “Double Down” winner of the weekend. Greg Winchenbach & Crushstation took the freestyle championship by 1 point over Randy Brown & Grave Digger, but more importantly, “double downed.”

Monster Jam Freestyle Results:
Samson – 6/4/5 = 15
Instigator – 7/7/6 = 20
Bad News – 7/7/7 = 21
Higher Education – 7/8/7 = 22
Superman – 7/8/8 = 23
Crushstation – 8/8/8 = 24
Grave Digger – 8/7/8 = 23

Saturday 2pm

The McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest hit the floor almost as if the fans were caught off guard. The action was without a doubt just like last night, our version of the “fast & the furious!” Brandon Derrow won his 1st McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest of 2013 and that “goofy grin” gave proof to the excitement of the moment for him and his fans.

McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest Results:
Bad News – 8/8/8 = 24
Samson – 5/4/5 = 14
Instigator – 6/5/6 = 17
Superman – 7/7/7 = 21
Higher Education – 7/6/7 = 20
Grave Digger – 6/4/6 = 16
Crushstation – 7/8/8 = 23

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Racing was all about the big guns being shot down by some of the newer competitors in the Monster Jam series. It was an awe inspiring thing to see the fearless aggression of some of the newer guys or even the experienced drivers in newer trucks. In the end it was Greg Winchenbach & Crushstation claiming the UTI Monster Jam Racing Championship and becoming the 2nd driver to have that elusive shot at a “double down” this afternoon.

Monster Jam Racing Results:
Round 1:
Instigator moved into the round 2 with a “bye run.”
Superman defeated Bad News
Crushstation defeated Grave Digger
Higher Education defeated Samson
Round 2:
Superman defeated Instigator
Crushstation defeated Higher Education
UTI Championship Finals:
Crushstation defeated Superman

Monster Jam Freestyle hit the floor next and there is something pretty special about that moment when the fans are really & I mean REALLY anticipating some great freestyle action. Let me tell you, they were NOT let down! The last 3 trucks to hit the track put on a show for the ages! They ALL kept going even after the 60 second clock had run out, much to the delight of the fans here at the Charleston Civic Center. For the first time this weekend there was no doubt at all who would claim the win in freestyle and every fan was in agreement. Randy Brown & Grave Digger, Charleston West Virginia’s Monster Jam Freestyle Champions!

Monster Jam Freestyle Results:
Samson – 4/4/5 = 13
Instigator – 6/6/6 = 18

Saturday night

From the first competition of the event all the way until the final freestyle run of the night, there was Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam action both on the track and back in the pits, incredible, historic moments that will have fans and officials talking for a long time.
It started right away in the first contest, with the first competitor. Brandon Darrow & Bad News have been having a great weekend and it only got better during the McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest. He perfectly hit the cars, perfectly stood his Monster Jam truck right on its tailgate and it parked itself PERFECTLY. Brandon would eventually slowly move his Monster Jam truck into reverse, Bad News dropped back down onto all four tires just perfectly and Brandon drove off with a near perfect score of 29 (why it wasn’t a 30 I’ll never understand) and the win.

McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest:
Bad News – 9/10/10 = 29
Samson – 5/5/5 = 15
Instigator – 6/5/6 = 17
Superman – 9/9/9 = 27
Higher Education – 6/7/6 = 19
Grave Digger – DNS – mechanical issues
Crushstation – 9/10/9 = 28

The Monster Jam Racing part of the night seemed to be just a “carry-over” from the 2 prior events, as Greg Winchenbach & Crushstation swept their way through the bracket to meet up with another very strong pair in Joey Parnell & Superman. In the UTI Championship Finals, Greg & Crushstation absolutely hung it out and barely crossed the Advanced Auto Parts Finish Line in front of Parnell & Superman to claim another racing championship during the weekend.

Monster Jam Racing Results:
Round 1:
Superman defeated Higher Education
Crushstation defeated Instigator
Samson defeated Bad News
Round 2:
Superman defeated Higher Education(fast looser from 1st round)
Crushstation defeated Samson
UTI Monster Jam Finals:
Crushstation defeated Superman

Monster Jam Freestyle hit the track as one Monster Jam truck at a time came out and point by point bettered the previous competitor’s marks. What many of the fans kind of forgot was that Grave Digger & Randy Brown had been in the pits the ENTIRE event & with the help of Dan Patrick and many other crew members from other teams was trying to diagnose and rectify the motor problems. Needless to say with only seconds to spare on the clock, they were able to fire Grave Digger and made it to the floor with 3 seconds remaining on the clock. Randy had been strapped inside for nearly 15 minutes in anticipation of being able to make it out in time. Well, the legally timed scoring run is 60 seconds, and I would have to say that Randy was out there for nearly 4 to 4 ½ minutes. It was all for the fans and the crew members that helped get the legendary Monster Jam truck on the track in time. Randy did himself proud by scoring a 25 and winning the Monster Jam Freestyle Contest. What a “fan”tastic way to end the night!

Monster Jam Freestyle Results:
Samson – 5/5/5 = 15
Instigator – 6/6/6 = 18
Bad News – DNS – Mechanical Issues
Higher Education – 6/7/8 = 21
Superman – 7/8/8 = 23
Crushstation – 7/9/8 = 24
Grave Digger – 8/8/9 = 25

Sunday 2PM

The final Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam show of a 4 event weekend here in Charleston, WV and the fans just had the inkling that there was something cool about to take place this afternoon. There was no reason to save the Monster Jam trucks for the next event, no race tomorrow, and for all practical purposes, it was a “checkers or wreckers” kind of day.
Starting with the McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest, & oh how Joey Parnell & Superman would disappoint the rest of the field. He waited till last to hit the floor, but it was just a matter of time before Parnell would just get sick and tired of finishing 2nd in contest after contest. The McDonald’s Wheelie Contest would be the start of a great afternoon for Superman.

McDonald’s Monster Jam Wheelie Contest Results:
Bad News – 8/8/7 = 23
Samson – 6/5/5 = 16
Instigator – 7/6/6 = 20
Full Boar – 6/5/6 = 17
Grave Digger – 7/7/6 = 20
Superman – 8/8/8 = 24

Now it was Monster Jam Racing time baby and there was a very interesting turn of events here! It started in round 1 where it appeared that Instigator was eliminated but ended coming back in round 2 as the fast looser to only WIN and move into the finals against Superman. But the good times were short lived for Paul Breaud & Instigator as they qualified for the UTI Monster Jam Racing Finals going up against Joey Parnell & Superman (fresh off their wheelie win.) Problem with Paul Beaud was that there was no denying Parnell & Superman another win this afternoon and more importantly the “double down” opportunity. Joey Parnell & Superman, the winners in the UTI Monster Jam Racing Finals!

UTI Monster Jam Racing Championship Results:
Round 1:
Bad News defeated Instigator
Grave Digger defeated FullBoar
Superman defeated Samson
Round 2:
Instigator (came back as fast loser) defeated Bad News
Superman defeated Grave Digger
UTI finals:
Superman defeated Instigator

The final event of the entire weekend, Monster Jam Freestyle, well, all I can say is that there was NO WAY anyone was going to deny the win going to Randy Brown & Grave Digger. Throw out the idea of the 60 second clock, who cares about the 30 second bonus, Randy Brown was going to run Digger into the ground either blown up in pieces or run it out of fuel, whichever came first. Another win goes into the record breaking archives of the Grave Digger camp!

Monster Jam Freestyle Results:
Sampson – 5/5/5 = 15
Instigator – 5/6/5 = 16
Bad News – 7/7/7 = 21
Full Boar – 6/6/6 = 18
Superman – 8/7/8 = 23
Grave Digger – 8/8/8 = 24
