Saturday 7:30pm

For the first time ever, a dirt track covered the floor of historic Rupp Arena for the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam. But that wasn’t the only first as an eight truck field including 2 time World Freestyle Champion Jim Koehler in Avenger and the Icon Dennis Anderson in Grave Digger.

The night started off with the Icon taking a win in the Monster Jam Wheelie competition with the Black and Green Wrecking Machine. Anderson was amped up and ready to rock for Monster Jam Racing with the possibility of facing his former crew chief Dustin Brown, the new Wolverine driver. The opportunity for the teacher/student match up came to fruition in the semi final round of racing. Brown mentioned during the party in the pits about how much he learned from Anderson over his 8 year tenure as crew chief. He put those skills to good use as the replay confirmed that Wolverine edged out Grave Digger by a tire tread. Brown would then face a bad fast Monster Mutt Rottweiler driven by Rod Schmidt. Schmidt proved to be too much for the rookie and easily took the win.

The fans were hyped and ready to rock for the Advance Auto Parts Service Is Our Best Part Freestyle. Wolverine took an early lead with a score of 20 even though his run ended early. His lead was short lived as the energized Schmidt powered Monster Mutt Rottweiler around the floor to edge out Wolverine for the lead. But Grave Digger was the last truck to hit the floor with Anderson amped up because his remarkable team thrashed to get the truck fixed after breaking a tie rod and steering ram during the semi final round of racing. And in classic Grave Digger style, Anderson burned it down bringing the fans to their feet to end the show.

Sunday 2:00pm

Rupp Arena provided a supercharged atmosphere for the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam.

Dennis Anderson in Grave Digger once again took the win in the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition and then easily forged through the bracket to make it to the UTI Racing Finals. In that round, he would face Rod Schmidt in Monster Mutt Rottweiler who was looking to take his second racing win of the weekend. This proved to be an interesting matchup since Schmidt was a Team Grave Digger driver for Anderson for 15 years before making the change to Monster Mutt Rottweiler this year. The winner was only decided after multiple views of the instance replay and it was determined that Monster Mutt Rottweiler crossed the Advance Auto Parts Finish Line first to take the race win.

Getting ready for the Advance Auto Parts Service Is Our Best Part Freestyle proved to be hectic for at least two crews. During racing, both Wrecking Crew and Rammunition popped tires on their machines. Fortunately both were able to get them fixed though. The Wrecking Crew team replaced the entire tire in a matter of about 15 minutes and busted out as the first truck to score a 14. But the Rammunition team just fixed the damage to the tire. The repair was not able to hold after Mat Dishman unleashed the Ram power of 2,000 horses on the track with some big air and the tire popped again as he landed giving him an uncharacteristic score of 3. While each truck performed bigger tricks, this competition clearly belonged to Grave Digger. Anderson wheeled the machine around the floor hitting all obstacles with authority and ending his run with a teeter tottering maneuver that resulted in a huge save. Once again, Anderson burned it down in Grave Digger proving why they call him The Icon.
