Friday 7:30pm

What a great start to the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam 2013 season in Des Moines IA. 8 Monster Jam Trucks packed into Wells Fargo Arena and had a great night of racing and freestyle action! This surely primed the pump for tomorrow’s double header here in Des Moines. The night started with Team Iowa downing Team Illinois in the Quad Wars Shootout. The night started with the Monster Jam Trucks hitting the car stacks in the wheelie contest! This would see all of the trucks hit the stacks hard but when all of the dust settled it would be the team from Kill Devil Hills taking the W with a great, hard hitting wheelie to get the night started. This did not overshadow the return of Jim Bendzick in Rolling Thunder back to the tour after a hiatus of a few years.

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam Racing would see several issues arise from the get go. Incinerator broke a spindle and was unable to race so this allowed the Get Er Done truck to make a smooth pass and advance with no opposition in the first round. From there we would see the oil pressure drop out on Grave Digger forcing Gary Porter and his UTI Trained Crew to pull that Monster Jam Truck from racing to try to fix the black and green wrecking machine for freestyle. This would give Bad Habit a pass into the second round as well. On the top of the brackets we would see Rolling Thunder down Mitch Tulachka in Get Er Done to advance to the semis to face off against Monster Mutt who downed Robo Machine. The top of the bracket played out in grand fashion as the wonder boy Jim Bendzick continued his winning ways getting past Monster Mutt to get to the UTI Racing Championship. In the bottom of the bracket Get Er Done would return to face off against Bad Habit to get the win and a ticket to the championship. IN the end Rolling Thunder would fall to Get Er Done and the champion was crowned!

Freestyle would see Monster Mutt Cruise to a win over a serious challenger in Bad Habit. Joe Sylvester came in and brought huge air and a fast pace to the floor to garner a score of 22 on a Grave Digger tire. Gary Porter realized that he was not going to make it back for freestyle and Joe had blown a rear tire so Team Grave Digger tired up Bad Habit with a Kill Devil Hills tire from Grave Digger to give the fans a chance to have a great finish to the night. Bad Habit’s score would hold until the final truck would take to the dirt and bring the crowd to its feet with a stellar freestyle bringing the hardware to Team Mutt! Whit Tarlton carried the Monster Mutt name with pride finishing strong and keeping the big dog in one piece for tomorrow!

Freestyle is one of the main draws to any Monster Jam event, and this one would not disappoint. All of the trucks were ready to rock and the show would start with a strong run from Shane Phreed in Robo Machine, this would launch all of the competitors into a frenzy as the bar was set high. Monster Mutt would garner a high score of 25 and be in the hot seat for no more time that it took Gary Porter in Grave Digger to put on a great freestyle to get a 26 and the win!
